1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant | Year 4 | St Helens Location: St Helens Start date: November 2026 Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 3:30pm Contract: Full-time, initially until July 2027 I’m recruiting an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant for a welcoming mainstream primary school in St Helens. The role involves providing consistent 1:1 support to a pupil in Year 4 who needs additional help with classroom engagement, emotional regulation and accessing learning.
You’ll work closely with the class teacher and SENCO, following the pupil’s individual support plan and helping them develop confidence and independence. This is a full-time, long-term position for someone who can offer the pupil stability and commit to the school until at least July 2027. The role will include: Providing dedicated 1:1 support throughout the school day Helping the pupil access English, maths and wider curriculum lessons Breaking instructions and activities into manageable steps Using visual prompts, movement breaks and agreed regulation strategies Supporting transitions between lessons and activities Encouraging positive behaviour, confidence and independence Delivering short, targeted interventions where required Monitoring engagement and sharing feedback with the teacher and SENCO Supporting the pupil during less structured parts of the day Building a positive, consistent and trusting relationship The school is looking for someone who: Has experience supporting pupils with SEND in a school or relevant setting Understands autism, ADHD, SEMH or emotional regulation needs Is calm, patient and consistent Can respond confidently when a pupil becomes overwhelmed Understands when to provide support and when to encourage independence Works well with teachers, SENCOs and other support staff Is reliable and able to commit to a long-term role A Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification would be desirable.
