Location: Wolverhampton A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a supportive Teaching Assistant to start immediately. This Teaching Assistant position will involve working with children and young people who require an alternative pathway to education due to social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, trauma-related experiences, anxiety, behavioural challenges, and barriers to learning. The successful Teaching Assistant will help create a safe, nurturing, and structured environment where pupils can rebuild confidence, develop resilience, and re-engage with education.

The Role As a Teaching Assistant , you will: Support pupils with SEMH needs, anxiety, emotional regulation difficulties, and challenging behaviour. Help implement individual learning, behaviour, and pastoral support plans. Build positive and trusting relationships that enable pupils to feel safe and supported. Adapt classroom resources and activities to meet individual learning needs. Promote engagement, confidence, and self-esteem both inside and outside the classroom.

Support pupils in developing social skills, emotional resilience, and positive coping strategies. Work closely with teaching staff and other professionals to help pupils achieve positive outcomes and successfully re-engage with learning This Teaching Assistant role is ideal for someone passionate about supporting young people who may have experienced difficulties within mainstream education and helping them reach their full potential.

What You’ll Need Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEND, SEMH needs, behavioural difficulties, or within an alternative provision setting. A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach. Strong communication and relationship-building skills. A team-focused attitude and willingness to learn. The ability to remain calm and consistent in challenging situations. Motivation to succeed as a Teaching Assistant and make a lasting difference to the lives of young people.
