Those stories are part of what makes this such a special place to work.   Job Overview The Macy's 8-week summer internship program in Product Development provides exposure to the development and execution of Macy's private label brands. The Product Development team plays a key role in driving sales and profitability through exclusive brand assortments. The team partners closely with Buying, Design, and Sourcing to bring products to market, ensuring they meet brand standards, quality expectations, and cost and margin objectives.

Interns will gain experience supporting assortment execution, participating in key milestone meetings, and collaborating with cross-functional teams throughout the product development process. Macy's summer internship program provides interns with a hands-on and in-depth understanding of a core business function in retail. Interns have opportunities to directly impact the business as a key part of a team and by sharing new ideas.

The internship program may lead to an opportunity to work full-time with Macy's in our early careers program after graduation. This internship program will be held in Macy's New York, New York Corporate offices. What You Will Do Receive professional development through a combination of hands-on learning, structured workshops, and collaborative projects Build relationships with other interns, business leaders, and team colleagues Competitive shop to understand competitor assortment Partner with overseas offices, vendors, and cross-functional teams to support sample management, product development milestones, and timely execution of deliverables Assist in managing and tracking all meeting samples requested for area of responsibility Review sample execution with team Assist in creating initial styles in Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system & Order Management System (OMS) Support in preparation for Mid-Point / Pre-Line Review, Line Review Meetings and Post Buy Recap meetings Assist in keying assortment purchase orders (PO) as well as managing and tracking POs throughout the season Aptitude to function within deadlines, while working both independently and as part of a team Regular, dependable attendance & punctuality   Qualifications and Competencies High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Junior standing (rising senior at the time of the internship) pursuing a bachelor's degree with a strong academic record. Minimum 3.0 GPA preferred. All majors will be considered for this opportunity. Strong retail math, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze sales, margin, inventory turn, sell-through, and other key retail performance metrics; identify trends and opportunities; and translate data into actionable business recommendations.

Advanced Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, formulas, and data analysis techniques; proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) and the ability to work with large datasets. Basic understanding of merchandising and assortment planning principles, with strong business acumen and curiosity about the retail industry. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation, storytelling, and relationship-building abilities.
