Dunn Behavioral Sciences Center, the largest academic psychiatric hospital in the country, is hiring a Psychiatric Technician to join our team of behavioral health professionals on the General Adult Unit (2B). This 12-hour day shift position (7:00 a.m.

to 7:30 p.m.) supports adult patients receiving inpatient psychiatric care for a variety of acute behavioral health and emotional health needs. We are seeking compassionate, dependable, and safety-focused individuals who are passionate about behavioral health and committed to creating a therapeutic, recovery-oriented environment that promotes patient dignity, safety, and well-being. Unit Information and Work Environment The General Adult Unit provides specialized inpatient psychiatric care for adults experiencing acute psychiatric, behavioral health, and emotional health conditions.

Patients may require support with stabilization, safety monitoring, therapeutic engagement, activities of daily living, crisis intervention, and preparation for continued treatment or discharge planning. This fast-paced behavioral health setting emphasizes safety, teamwork, structure, and compassionate care. Psychiatric Technicians work closely with registered nurses and the interdisciplinary treatment team to maintain a safe and therapeutic environment, respond to patient needs, and support daily unit operations.

The unit is committed to delivering patient-centered, trauma-informed care that promotes recovery, dignity, and respect. Typical Staffing Levels and Team Structure The Psychiatric Technician works within a collaborative staffing matrix that typically includes: 2 Registered Nurses (RNs) 2 Psychiatric Technicians (Psych Techs) This team-based approach supports patient observation, safety checks, therapeutic engagement, communication, and coordinated responses to patient and unit needs.

Schedule Day Shift: 7:00 a.m. - 7:30 p.m. 12-hour shifts Matrix scheduling pattern with alternating weekends: 2 days on, 2 days off, 3 days on, repeating cycle Required to work every other weekend Scheduled for a minimum of 84 hours within a two-week pay period Mandatory Orientation: Two-week onboarding process for all new hires Hospital-Wide Education Orientation: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM (first two weeks) a { text-decoration: none; color: #464feb; } tr th, tr td { border: 1px solid #e6e6e6; } tr th { background-color: #f5f5f5; } Please note: Team members may be required to float to other behavioral health units throughout the hospital based on staffing needs and patient census to support patient care and operational requirements.
