Job Title: Substation Quality Control Representative Job Description This role serves as the Substation Quality Control Representative on a large, multi-year substation project supporting major utility and data center clients in Louisiana. The position focuses on overseeing construction and commissioning activities for the Titanium and Omega phases of a substation project, ensuring that subcontractors deliver safe, high-quality work that meets all contract, schedule, and reporting requirements.
The Substation QC Representative leads subcontractor crews in the field, manages overall production and quality, and maintains rigorous documentation and reporting throughout the life of the project. Responsibilities Lead and oversee subcontractor crews in the construction of substation facilities, ensuring work is executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project plans and specifications.
Drive subcontractor performance by setting clear expectations, monitoring progress, and taking corrective actions to maintain productivity and quality standards. Ensure all construction activities comply with quality control requirements, including substation-specific QA/QC processes, standards, and procedures. Manage overall production and quality for assigned crews and work scopes, ensuring milestones and deliverables are completed on time and within defined parameters.
Oversee construction and commissioning activities to verify that work meets contract requirements, design documents, and applicable codes and standards. Coordinate and conduct regular construction meetings with subcontractors, project team members, and stakeholders to review progress, address issues, and align on next steps. Maintain thorough and accurate reporting on construction progress, quality control inspections, issues, and resolutions, using standardized reporting tools and formats.
Support and enforce safety requirements on site, ensuring subcontractors follow all safety procedures and work practices. Manage change management and risk management aspects within the construction scope, escalating issues and changes appropriately to the project team. Review and interpret construction documents, drawings, and specifications for substation and distribution projects, and ensure crews build in accordance with those documents.
Collaborate closely with project management and engineering teams to resolve field issues and coordinate construction sequences and schedules. Support transmission, distribution, and substation work as needed, including coordination with utility partners and other stakeholders. Contribute to continuous improvement of construction and quality processes by identifying lessons learned and recommending enhancements to procedures and practices.
Essential Skills Proven experience in Substation Quality Control, with a strong understanding of substation construction and QA/QC practices. Experience in distribution construction management, including oversight of field crews and subcontractors. Knowledge of electrical distribution, power delivery, and substation construction methods and standards. Ability to read, interpret, and work from construction documents, drawings, and specifications.
Strong quality control and quality assurance skills specific to substation and distribution projects. Proficient computer skills to support reporting, documentation, and communication requirements. Strong reporting skills, including the ability to produce clear, accurate, and timely construction and quality reports. Experience overseeing construction subcontractors to ensure compliance with safety, quality, reporting, contract, standards, change management, risk management, and schedule requirements.
