Job Title: DARC Technical Illustrator (CAD/CAM Engineer) Job Description This role offers the opportunity to contribute directly to advanced radar system development programs by creating and maintaining high-quality technical drawings and models. As a CAD/CAM engineer, you support a multidisciplinary engineering and drafting team in developing and sustaining the configuration baseline and technical data for complex radar systems.
You work in a collaborative environment, documenting designs with precision, ensuring compliance with standards, and helping solve challenging engineering problems across the full product lifecycle. Responsibilities Create, update, and maintain detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and as-built documentation for radar systems and related hardware. Check completed layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, and conformity to established standards, procedures, and specifications, ensuring accurate calculations and dimensioning.
Identify design errors, omissions, and other deficiencies in drawings and models, and recommend revisions or improvements to responsible engineers or designers. Support the overall Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system by managing product and CAD data throughout the entire product development life cycle. Generate engineering drawings that comply with ASME standards, including appropriate use of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
Develop and maintain indentured part lists and drawing tree levels of indenture to accurately represent system hierarchy and configuration. Establish and maintain a system configuration baseline, ensuring all technical data and documentation remain accurate and up to date. Perform project engineering functions for a small group of engineers, including task management, customer interactions, and coordination with program management on schedules and work scope.
Present and clearly articulate complex mechanical and system designs to internal and external stakeholders, both verbally and in writing. Work to conclusion on design drawings and specifications across the entire product development lifecycle, from initial concept through verification and final documentation. Contribute to design verification activities and prepare verification reports that document compliance with requirements.
Design and model mechanical hardware interfaces, such as mounting brackets and related mechanical components. Support cable management and cable assembly requirements for RF and fiber optic applications, ensuring proper routing and integration. Assist with integrated electrical systems setup, testing, and issue resolution to support system functionality and performance. Integrate mechanical and electrical instrumentation, including performing electrical checkout of sensors and data acquisition hardware.
Apply knowledge of test design and execution to support validation of radar systems and associated components. Work within a government contracting environment, adhering to applicable standards, processes, and documentation requirements. Utilize USAF Technical Orders and experience with USAF/DoD radar systems to inform design, documentation, and verification activities. Participate in AGILE, SCRUM, or DevOps practices as part of the engineering and development process.
Essential Skills Active Secret security clearance. Approximately 5 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor of Science degree, 3 years with a Master’s degree, or 1 year with a PhD (Level 3). Ability to travel up to 10%. Proficiency with 3D CAD modeling software such as Siemens NX, Creo, and/or SolidWorks. Experience generating and creating engineering drawings compliant with ASME standards. Experience with indentured part list generation and managing drawing tree levels of indenture.
Proven ability to establish and maintain a system configuration baseline for complex systems. Solid understanding of mechanical design principles, engineering analysis, and geometric dimensioning and toler
