This Project is located in Detroit, Michigan!* Job Title: Lead EPMS Engineer Job Description The Lead EPMS Engineer serves as the technical lead for Electrical Power Monitoring System (EPMS) and SCADA integration for modular data center skid systems. In this role, you program, configure, and troubleshoot Ignition SCADA and EPMS systems, ensuring reliable communication between field devices and monitoring platforms.
You support factory and site testing, commissioning, and system turnover, while mentoring junior team members and collaborating closely with cross-functional commissioning teams on complex, high-impact projects in critical facility environments. Responsibilities Serve as the technical lead for EPMS and SCADA integration for modular data center skid systems, including switchboards, EPUs, and related electrical infrastructure.
Program, configure, and troubleshoot Ignition SCADA and EPMS systems to ensure accurate monitoring and control of electrical equipment. Interface with switchboards, EPUs, switchgear, UPS systems, and skid-mounted electrical equipment to integrate them into EPMS and SCADA platforms. Verify communication protocols and point mapping between field devices and SCADA systems to ensure data integrity and proper system functionality.
Perform diagnostics and root cause analysis for control and communication issues affecting EPMS, SCADA, and associated field devices. Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), integrated systems testing, and commissioning activities for data center electrical systems. Validate alarms, trends, control sequences, and operational functionality to confirm systems perform according to design and operational requirements.
Ensure commissioning documentation, test reports, and turnover packages are accurate, complete, and delivered on time. Coordinate daily with commissioning teams, electricians, controls technicians, and project leadership to align technical activities and project milestones. Collaborate with project stakeholders to manage multiple projects in fast-paced, mission-critical and data center environments.
Read and interpret electrical schematics and control drawings to support system integration, troubleshooting, and commissioning tasks. Mentor and guide junior commissioning personnel and technicians, sharing best practices in EPMS, SCADA, and power monitoring. Demonstrate strong leadership, accountability, and attention to detail in all aspects of system integration, testing, and commissioning. Uphold a strong commitment to safety, quality, and customer satisfaction throughout all project phases.
Essential Skills 5+ years of experience in controls engineering, EPMS, or SCADA environments. Hands-on experience programming and troubleshooting Ignition SCADA systems. Strong understanding of data center electrical infrastructure and mission-critical power systems. Familiarity with switchgear, switchboards, EPUs, UPS systems, and power distribution equipment. Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, and control drawings.
Experience supporting commissioning, startup, and integrated systems testing activities. Strong troubleshooting skills for control and communication issues in EPMS and SCADA systems. Effective verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with multidisciplinary teams. Strong leadership and problem-solving abilities in technical and project settings. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in fast-paced critical facility environments. High level of accountability, technical expertise, and attention to detail. Additional Skills & Qualifications Data center commissioning experience. Experience with Schneider Electric equipment and platforms. Knowledge of industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, BACnet, and Ethernet/IP or similar protocols.
