Job Description The Technical Accounting Manager plays a key role in managing external financial reporting, complex technical accounting assessments, and acquisition accounting activities for a dynamic, highly acquisitive organization. This position supports the preparation of audited U.S. GAAP financial statements, quarterly and annual reporting packages, and technical accounting analyses across a broad range of topics.
The role partners closely with executive leadership, external auditors, FP&A, Legal, Treasury, and Accounting teams, offering an excellent opportunity for a technically strong CPA with a public accounting foundation who enjoys researching complex accounting issues, drafting accounting memoranda, and collaborating across the business to reach well-supported accounting conclusions. Responsibilities Prepare and review quarterly and annual U.S.
GAAP financial statements and related disclosures. Support the preparation of audited annual financial reporting packages and quarterly reporting packages for lenders and executive leadership. Assist with operational and management reporting delivered to senior leadership and external stakeholders. Partner with FP&A by preparing schedules and data used within monthly and quarterly reporting packages.
Support year-end audit activities and serve as a key point of contact for external auditors. Perform research and technical accounting assessments on complex transactions and emerging accounting issues. Prepare detailed technical accounting memoranda and supporting documentation in accordance with U.S. GAAP. Evaluate accounting implications related to ASC 842 Lease Accounting, ASC 606 Revenue Recognition, Business Combinations (ASC 805), goodwill and impairment analyses, internal-use and capitalized software accounting, debt and equity transactions, and other complex accounting matters as they arise.
Partner with internal stakeholders to gather supporting documentation and develop well-supported accounting conclusions. Support acquisition accounting and purchase accounting analyses for newly acquired practices. Assist with valuation-related accounting considerations and business combination assessments. Participate in integration-related accounting and reporting activities for newly acquired entities.
Support a high-volume acquisition environment in which the organization completes dozens of acquisitions annually. Partner closely with Legal, FP&A, Treasury, Operational Accounting, and executive leadership teams to align accounting treatment with business objectives and regulatory requirements. Collaborate with external auditors to support audit requests, technical accounting positions, and financial statement reviews.
Assist with the development, documentation, and maintenance of accounting policies. Essential Skills Active CPA certification. Bachelor's degree in Accounting. Big 4 public accounting experience or equivalent top-tier public accounting background. Strong experience researching and documenting technical accounting issues. Deep understanding of U.S. GAAP and its application to complex transactions. Proven experience preparing technical accounting memoranda and supporting analyses.
Hands-on experience with ASC 842 Lease Accounting and ASC 606 Revenue Recognition. Experience supporting audited financial statements and annual audit processes. Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Ability to effectively interact and communicate with external auditors and executive leadership. Ability to work in a hybrid environment and be physically present in the Washington, DC / Northern Virginia area as required.
