The Sanitation Operator is responsible for executing, inspecting, and verifying sanitation activities throughout the food manufacturing facility to ensure compliance with food safety, quality, regulatory, and operational standards.

This role plays a critical part in maintaining a safe food production environment by performing sanitation on processing equipment and production areas, identifying potential contamination risks, supporting sanitation verification programs, and ensuring equipment is production-ready. What you’ll be doing. Execute sanitation procedures in accordance with SSOPs, GMPs, food safety programs, and company standards.

Clean and sanitize food processing equipment including conveyors, fryers, blanchers, cutters, flumes, piping systems, floors, drains, and production areas. Identify and eliminate product buildup, residue, biofilm indicators, and other contamination risks. Conduct visual inspections and support pre-operational inspections to verify cleanliness and production readiness. Safely disassemble and reassemble equipment required for effective cleaning and inspection.

Inspect equipment for conditions such as damaged components, sanitation harborage points, leaks, corrosion, worn seals, and other maintenance concerns. Handle, mix, test, and apply approved cleaning and sanitizing chemicals according to procedures, SDS requirements, and regulatory standards. Perform and document sanitation verification activities including ATP testing, chemical concentration checks, inspection records, and corrective actions.

Follow all safety requirements, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), PPE usage, chemical safety practices, and hazard reporting procedures. Collaborate with Production, Maintenance, Quality, and Sanitation teams to ensure effective shift handoffs and continuous improvement initiatives. What you’ll need to be successful. High school diploma or GED preferred. Minimum three months of related experience and/or training.

Previous experience in manufacturing, food production, industrial sanitation, cleaning, or maintenance environments preferred. Mechanical aptitude and the ability to safely disassemble and reassemble processing equipment. Knowledge of or willingness to learn food safety principles, GMPs, SSOPs, sanitation procedures, and chemical handling requirements. Ability to complete the McCain Operator Training Program and all assigned certifications, including: Food Safety and GMP Fundamentals Chemical Safety and SDS Literacy Sanitation Procedures and SSOP Compliance Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) Certification Forklift and Aerial Lift Certification Annual recertification requirements Basic computer skills and the ability to use touch-screen systems, sanitation tracking platforms, and electronic documentation tools.

Ability to read and interpret safety procedures, chemical labels, equipment instructions, SDS documents, and operating procedures. Strong attention to detail, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills. Ability to perform mathematical calculations related to chemical concentrations and sanitation documentation. Ability to work in wet, humid, noisy, and physically demanding manufacturing environments while lifting up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.

About the team. The Sanitation Technician is part of the plant Sanitation team and works closely with Production, Maintenance, Quality, and Food Safety partners to support operational excellence. This role is essential to ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant manufacturing operations by maintaining sanitary conditions throughout the facility and supporting production readiness across all shifts.
