Job Title: Maintenance Mechanic 1st shift - $35-$42/HR Job Description This role supports a fast-paced food manufacturing facility by troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining production and packaging equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operations. The Maintenance Mechanic minimizes equipment downtime, supports consistent production performance, and contributes directly to maintaining a clean, compliant manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities Troubleshoot and repair a wide range of production, packaging, and process machinery and equipment to maintain optimal performance. Diagnose and repair issues with building systems and environmental systems to support facility reliability and safety. Complete preventative maintenance procedures and assigned work orders within scheduled time frames. Execute special project assignments involving fabrication, equipment modification, and new equipment installations.
Read and interpret equipment manuals, work orders, electrical schematics, and other technical documentation to perform required maintenance and service accurately. Fully utilize a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to document work performed, parts usage, and equipment history. Provide support for bag size changeovers, machine settings, and cleaning activities to ensure quick and efficient transitions between production runs.
Support machine operators, leads, and operations teams by keeping all assigned areas and equipment up, functional, and ready for production. Perform intermediate electrical troubleshooting and support variable frequency drives (VFDs), sensors, and pneumatic systems as needed. Apply safe work practices and follow food manufacturing standards while performing all maintenance tasks. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in maintenance within a food manufacturing or similar regulated environment.
Experience performing equipment changeovers, particularly bag size and format changes on packaging lines. Comfort working closely with operations and production teams to support continuous improvement. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to diagnose complex mechanical and electrical issues. Attention to detail when documenting maintenance activities and following technical instructions. Capability to manage multiple work orders and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Work Environment The role is based in a clean food manufacturing facility that operates at a fast pace and follows Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards. You will work around high-speed packaging equipment, production machinery, and building systems while using tools such as volt/ohm and amp meters, dial calipers, and micrometers. The environment emphasizes cleanliness, organization, and adherence to food safety and quality procedures.
You can expect to use a CMMS regularly, interact closely with machine operators and production teams, and perform maintenance tasks on both equipment and facility systems in a structured, safety-focused setting. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Minneapolis, MN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $37.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
