Job Title: Construction Laborer Job Description This role focuses on supporting basement flood cleanup and structural repair by safely removing water and debris, operating power tools and drying equipment, and assisting with concrete work and trenching. You will work hands-on in wet and challenging environments to restore affected areas, prevent further damage, and ensure all tasks meet health and safety standards while collaborating closely with a field team.
Responsibilities Remove water and debris from flooded basements using pumps, wet vacuums, and other specialized equipment. Clean and sanitize affected areas thoroughly to prevent mold and mildew growth. Dispose of damaged materials and items in accordance with safety regulations and company procedures. Assist with the setup, monitoring, and operation of drying equipment such as dehumidifiers and air movers.
Perform minor repairs and maintenance tasks as needed to support restoration and construction activities. Use a jackhammer to break up concrete and other hard surfaces safely and efficiently as required by the project. Dig trenches to facilitate drainage and effective water removal around and within basement areas. Install cement and other materials to repair, reinforce, and restore basement structures.
Lift, carry, and move heavy objects, including debris, tools, and equipment, in a safe and controlled manner. Follow all health and safety guidelines and ensure work areas remain as safe and organized as possible. Communicate clearly and consistently with team members and supervisors to coordinate tasks and maintain an efficient workflow. Essential Skills Experience in construction, general labor, cleaning, or a closely related field is preferred.
Proficiency in using power tools, including jackhammers and other heavy equipment, in a safe and controlled manner. Ability to use hand tools and a tape measure accurately to support construction and repair tasks. Knowledge of trench digging techniques and safe excavation practices. Knowledge of cement installation techniques for repairing and reinforcing basement structures. Ability to lift heavy objects and perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods.
Strong attention to detail and practical problem-solving skills in a field environment. Ability to work effectively in wet, dirty, and potentially hazardous environments while following safety procedures. Good communication skills and the ability to work well as part of a team. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Additional Skills & Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent.
Previous experience in flood cleanup, restoration, or basement repair is an asset. Comfort working with pumps, wet vacuums, dehumidifiers, and air movers.
