Our Lihir Operation, located on the beautiful island of Niolam, approximately 800km north of Papua New Guinea's capital, Port Moresby, is one of the world’s largest gold mines.
Set within a geothermically active, extinct volcanic crater, Lihir operates an open-pit mine producing refractory ore, which undergoes pressure oxidation and conventional leaching to recover gold. Purpose Reporting to the Supervisor - Mechanical - Shovel Pad, you will be responsible for safely carrying out inspection, fault finding, maintenance, repair, and testing activities on a range of heavy mining equipment.
Your primary focus will be supporting shovel and drill assets while ensuring all work is completed in accordance with safety, maintenance, and operational standards Essential Duties · Perform inspection, diagnosis, troubleshooting, repair and testing of mobile mining equipment electrical systems. · Maintain and repair heavy mining equipment to required operational and safety standards. · Complete accurate maintenance documentation and service records.
· Contribute to equipment reliability and fleet availability targets. · Identify and report opportunities for cost reduction and waste minimisation. · Demonstrate a strong commitment to Health, Safety and Environmental standards. · Work collaboratively within a diverse and inclusive team environment. Training & Experience · Trade Certificate in Auto Electrical Technology or equivalent qualification.
· Minimum 3 to 5 years' experience in heavy industry, preferably within mining. · Proven experience maintaining and troubleshooting mobile fleet equipment. · Strong commitment to safety and safe work practices. · Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. · Strong problem-solving and fault-finding capability. · High attention to detail and effective time management skills. · Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
· Current PNG Class 6 Driver's Licence. Desirable Experience Experience working on the following equipment will be highly regarded: · Hitachi EX2600 Excavators · O&K RH200 Hydraulic Excavators · Caterpillar 6020 & 6060 Mining Shovels · Epiroc D65 Drills · Epiroc/Atlas Copco PV231 & PV271 Pit Viper Blast Hole Drills Working Conditions This role is offered on a 28:14 Day / Night Fly in, Fly out (FIFO) roster to Lihir Island, PNG from our approved POH.
