Our Lihir Operation, located on the beautiful island of Niolam, approximately 800km north of Papua New Guinea's capital, Port Moresby, is one of the world’s largest gold mines.
Set within a geothermically active, extinct volcanic crater, Lihir operates an open-pit mine producing refractory ore, which undergoes pressure oxidation and conventional leaching to recover gold. Our workforce includes both residential and commute rosters, creating a diverse and dynamic team. Your Impact As an Advisor People Training (Mining), you'll develop and deliver training programs, coach and assess personnel, and support capability development across heavy equipment operations including haul trucks, auxiliary equipment and loading equipment.
You'll help ensure employees are trained to contribute to safe production outcomes by identifying skill gaps, adapting training programs and promoting proactive safety behaviours. As part of our team, you will Develop training materials and deliver training aligned with Newmont, industry and HSE standards for heavy equipment operations. Deliver both theory and on-the-job training for operators across mine operations, including haul truck, excavator and loader training.
Conduct field observations and engage with operational leaders to identify capability gaps and enhance training programs. Maintain accurate training records within the Learning Management System (LMS) and communicate training plans with key stakeholders. Promote safe and productive work practices while supporting continuous improvement and development across the workforce Prerequisites for your success in this role Considerable experience in an open pit mining operation as an operator, supervisor or trainer, with demonstrated capability across heavy equipment operations.
Certificate IV Training and Assessment or equivalent professional education and training qualification. Subject matter expertise in haul trucks, loading equipment, auxiliary equipment and operational mining training practices. Experience developing training materials and curricula, delivering classroom and field-based training, and applying adult learning principles. Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office and Learning Management Systems (LMS), supported by effective communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Your work environment This role is offered on a 21:21 Fly-in, Fly-out (FIFO) roster to Lihir Island, Papua New Guinea.
