This position is located at the Resilience, Federal Insurance and Mitigation Administration, Mitigation, Hazard Mitigation Assistance Division in Washington, DC. Joining the Mitigation Directorate within FEMA's Office of Resilience offering exciting opportunity to become part of a team that builds and delivers creative solutions to empower communities to become more resilient and adaptable to intensifying hazards to reduce disaster suffering.
Major duties: What will I do in this position if hired? In this position, you will serve as senior expert mitigation advisors to high-ranking and professional staff in the headquarters and in the geographically dispersed regions of FEMA along with related agencies at Federal, State, local, tribal, territorial, nongovernmental organizations, and private sector. Typical assignments include: Supervises staff that serves as expert functional proponents in the mitigation area providing advice and guidance on national and regionalized delivery of mitigation services.
Manages the development and implementation of new emergency management mitigation programs and enhancements. Analyze mitigation program requirements and determines needed and available resources (e.g., technical expertise, equipment, and infrastructure) and capacities, as well as future resources, to support all mitigation activities. Every FEMA employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites. All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official position description.
Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.
