Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Congressional Affairs, Washington DC. Additional selections may be made for other organizational divisions and/or units within the duty location(s) listed above. Major duties: This position is located within the Office of Congressional Affairs (OCA), U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), U.S.

Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The Office of Congressional Affairs is responsible for advising CBP managers on legislative affairs and congressional matters and for assisting Members of Congress and their staffs in understanding current and proposed CBP programs. Typical duties include: Providing assistance to management officials in planning, directing, and coordinating congressional liaison activities.

Developing and maintains awareness of program philosophies, mission, special interests, and areas of concern to support congressional relations. Establishing and sustains effective relationships for information exchange between Congress and the organization, including conducting briefings and providing analysis of programs and legislative matters. Overseeing the development of program plans, assesses progress, and manages external relationships related to congressional affairs.

Performing the full range of supervisory duties over staff engaged in congressional liaison activities, including planning, assigning, and evaluating work. This position starts at a salary of $169,279.00 (GS-15, Step 1) to $197,200.00 (GS-15, Step 10) with promotion potential to $197,200 (GS-15 Step 10).
