Our client is a boiler, burner, and water heater service company serving commercial and residential customers across northern New Jersey. Our reputation is built on getting a technician to the customer quickly and making sure that technician arrives with the right part on the truck. We are hiring a Service and Inventory Manager to own both halves of that equation. This is a hands-on leadership role that sits between the field and the warehouse.

On any given morning you will be dispatching technicians to service calls, walking a technician through a no-heat diagnosis over the phone, pulling parts for the next installation, and placing an order with a supplier before stock runs thin. The person who succeeds here is a heating professional first and an administrator second: someone who knows what a low-water cutoff does, knows which circulator the shop tends to burn through, and knows how to keep a crew organized without micromanaging it.

You will directly supervise the field service team and carry full responsibility for the parts and equipment inventory that keeps them productive. It is a role with real authority over scheduling, purchasing, and stocking decisions, and real accountability for response times, first-visit completion rates, and inventory accuracy. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Team and Service Management You will run daily operations for the service department and act as the primary technical resource for the field.

•       Direct daily operations for the service technician team, including start-of-day assignments and end-of-day close-out. •       Schedule and dispatch repair, maintenance, and installation jobs, balancing emergency calls against planned work. •       Serve as the escalation point for technical troubleshooting on boilers, burners, and water heaters, supporting technicians by phone or on site as needed.

•       Coach and develop technicians on diagnostic technique, workmanship standards, and customer interaction. •       Coordinate with customers and office staff on job status, timelines, and follow-up work. •       Enforce safety practices and code compliance across all field work.

Inventory Control and Procurement You will own the parts and equipment inventory end to end, from stocking levels to what goes on the truck each morning. •       Track stock levels of boiler parts, burner components, water heaters, fittings, controls, and tools. •       Procure material and equipment for immediate jobs as well as for shelf stock, working with suppliers on pricing, availability, and lead times.

•       Order replacement parts and equipment and track open orders through to receipt. •       Stage and prepare material and equipment for field technicians ahead of scheduled jobs. •       Conduct regular physical inventory counts and reconcile against system records.

•       Prevent stock shortages on high-turn items while reducing waste, obsolescence, and overstock. •       Maintain an organized, well-labeled warehouse and shop area. Requirements Required •       Working technical knowledge of hydronic and steam heating systems, including boilers, burners, water heaters, controls, and related piping.

•       Prior experience supervising, leading, or coordinating a field service or trades team. •       Demonstrated experience tracking inventory, purchasing parts, or managing stock in a service, distribution, or contracting environment. •       Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effec
