General Description: The TWA - Assistive Technology Occupational Therapist is responsible for providing Assistive Technology (AT) and/or Occupational Therapy (OT) services to support students with disabilities in accessing and participating in their educational programs.
Services are provided in accordance with Chesterfield County Public Schools (CCPS), Virginia Department of Education (VDOE), and federal special education regulations. Job Description: Essential Job Functions: Provides assistive technology and/or occupational therapy services in accordance with students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) Conducts assistive technology and occupational therapy evaluations to identify barriers to participation and determine appropriate tools, accommodations, and interventions that support access to the educational environment Develops written evaluation reports and recommendations and participates in eligibility, IEP, reevaluation, and other required meetings Collaborates with teachers, related service providers, administrators, families, and community agencies to support the effective implementation of assistive technology and occupational therapy services Recommends, configures, programs, customizes, and troubleshoots assistive technology devices, software, and adaptive equipment to meet individual student needs Provides training and ongoing technical assistance to educational staff, students, and families regarding the effective use of assistive technology devices, software, and accessibility features Consults with staff regarding assistive technology solutions, classroom accessibility, and strategies to increase student independence and participation Assists with the acquisition, inventory, deployment, maintenance, and tracking of assistive technology equipment and maintains related databases and documentation Develops instructional resources, guidance documents, presentations, and professional learning opportunities related to assistive technology, occupational therapy, accessibility, and inclusive practices Supports accessibility of digital instructional materials, educational technology platforms, and electronic documents in accordance with applicable accessibility standards Maintains accurate and timely documentation of evaluations, services provided, IEP compliance, Medicaid billing, and other required records Stays current with research, emerging technologies, evidence-based practices, and state and federal guidance related to assistive technology and occupational therapy Complies with Chesterfield County Public Schools policies and procedures and all applicable local, state, and federal regulations Performs other duties as assigned Budgetary Responsibility: This position has no budgetary responsibility.
Report Preparation: Prepares numerous required reports, such as evaluations, progress reports, and IEP and Medicaid documentation. Equipment Operation: Operates personal computer, general office equipment, and specialized equipment pertaining to students with assistive technology needs Contacts: This position has regular contact with all levels of CCPS personnel, students, and parents, as well as various outside agencies for the purpose of identification and provision of services.
Work Direction/Supervision: May provide supervision for graduate students, field placements, and/or Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants. Decision Making: High level of independent decision making. Formal Policy-Setting Responsibilities: This position has no formal policy-setting responsibilities.
