Federal Historian and Cultural Resources Specialist The Opportunity: Serve as a Federal Historian and Cultural Resources Spe cia list supporting historical research, institutional knowledge preservation, archival management, and federal cultural resources compliance. Research complex historical questions using government records, oral histories, archival collections, and other authoritative primary and secondary sources.

Develop offi cia l agency histories, commemorative publications, policy background papers, briefings, and other historical products for internal leaders, congressional stakeholders, oversight bodies, and public audiences. Conduct verbal history interviews with veterans, government offi cia ls, subject-matter experts, and community members using established archival recording, documentation, and transcription protocols.

Support reviews of federal undertakings for compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, document findings, and contribute to advising and cultural resources management activities. Apply archival standards to appraise, arrange, describe, digitize, catalog, and preserve historical records. Use met adata standards and digital collection management practices to ensure the long-term discoverability, accessibility, and retention of agency records.

Work independently on complex historical and cultural resources assignments, exercise sound professional judgment, and communicate defensible findings to senior leaders and external stakeholders. You Have: Experience conducting verbal history interviews using established archival recording, documentation, and transcription protocols Experience supporting Section 106 reviews under the National Historic Preservation Act and documenting compliance findings Experience appraising, arranging, describing, digitizing, cataloging, and preserving historical records using archival and met adata standards Experience presenting complex historical findings to agency leadership, congressional staff, oversight organizations, community stakeholders, or public audiences Knowledge of the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act and asso cia ted consult ation and documentation requirements Ability to use Geographic Information Systems to analyze, document, map, and present historical or cultural resources information Top Secret clearance Master’s degree in a History, Public History, Anthropology, Archaeology, Archival Studies, Historic Preservation, or Cultural Resources Management field Nice If You Have: Experience supporting historical, archival, or cultural resources programs within the Department of Defense or another federal agency Experience preparing documentation and supporting consult ation with State Historic Preservation Officers, Tribal Historic Preservation Officers, federally recognized Tribes, and other consult ing parties Experience applying federal records management requirements, professional archival standards, and digital preservation practices Experience using digital asset management, archival collection management, or electronic records management systems Experience creating maps, geospatial exhibits, or historical site analyses using GIS platforms Knowledge of the National Environmental Policy Act and its relationship to cultural resources reviews Knowledge of federal historic preservation, archaeological resources, cultural property statutes, and related regulations Section 106 process certification Completion of training in archives, historic preservation, cultural resources management, or GIS Clearance: Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information ; Top Secret clearance is required.
