Job Title:  Recreation Services Facility Assistant- PRN     Department: Recreation Services     External Hiring Range: $17.17 - $20.67     Compensation Grade: 2001     Posted Internally and Externally             Buncombe County Parks & Recreation is hiring a part-time, PRN (Pro Re Nata), Facility Assistant, a hands-on role supporting our daily park operations.

This position reports to the Park Ranger Supervisor, and follows a variable schedule, with shifts commonly including weekday evenings and weekends. The primary work location is Lake Julian Park, though assignments may occasionally rotate to other recreation sites across the county. As part of a small, collaborative team, the Facility Assistant helps maintain park cleanliness, interacts with the public, conducts sales and rentals, and upholds a welcoming and safe environment for all visitors.

I. Purpose of the position: The purpose of this position is to perform a wide variety of tasks to support our daily park operations within the Recreation Department. II. Essential Functions of the position: Promote good public relations and communication with citizens using the park and recreation facilities. Participate in various fee collection, event registration, and evaluation activities. May perform a variety of duties associated with the daily use of park areas and facilities.

Ability to work weekends, evenings and nights as needed. Perform other related duties as assigned. III. Typical Work Schedule: Adheres to assigned work schedule as outlined in the Department and County attendance policies and procedures. Regular, predictable attendance is essential. *Note: This position has been identified as an emergency essential position and as such employees in this position may be needed to work, including after-hours, weekends and during a public emergency (to include but not limited to floods, ice storms, disease outbreak, terrorist attack, etc.).

IV. Supervision Received: Receives supervision to perform established duties; operates within specific policy guidelines; standard practices or procedures allow employee to proceed independently to perform routine work; work frequently checked while in progress and reviewed upon completion. Supervisory/Leadership Responsibilities: None. V. Decision Making and Problem Solving: Most problems are routine, predictable and constrained with little or no uncertainty; problems or questions are referred to supervisor.

Decision making is limited to information contained within established policies and procedures. VI. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Ability to use small office equipment and computers. Ability to adapt to a work environment that may include exposure to outdoor climate, dust and dirt, exposure to the hazards of working in and near traffic, exposure to various chemicals including fertilizers and pesticides, and exposure to domestic and wild animals.

Ability to answer questions and provide information to the public. Ability to speak, understand and communicate information and ideas so others may understand. Ability to use and/or repair small equipment. VII.
