Hospital Outreach Specialist

Hospital Outreach Specialists in the Jimmy Fund Clinic are paid employees of community organizations and are not paid by Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Hired through their parent organization, they work onsite to support pediatric patients and families in the Jimmy Fund Clinic by helping create a supportive and welcoming environment through developmentally appropriate engagement and activities. The Hospital Outreach Specialist receives direction and oversight from a member of the Patient and Family Programs team to ensure patient needs are best met.

The Hospital Outreach Specialist provides individualized, one-on-one, and group engagement with pediatric patients and their families within the Jimmy Fund Clinic. This role helps create a supportive and welcoming environment through developmentally appropriate activities that promote positive coping and normalization in a medical setting. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: • Provides individualized, one-on-one, and group engagement for pediatric patients and their families within the Jimmy Fund Clinic. • Helps create a supportive and welcoming environment for pediatric patients and families. • Facilitates developmentally appropriate activities that promote positive coping and normalization in a medical setting. • Leads or supports activities such as arts-and-crafts projects, games, and other experiences tailored to each child’s age, abilities, and medical needs.

• Interacts directly, in-person, with pediatric patients and families. • Works onsite in either the Jimmy Fund Clinic Playroom or Blum Pediatric Resource Room. • Works under the direct oversight of a member of the Patient and Family Programs team to ensure patient needs are best met. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: • Ability to engage pediatric patients and families in a supportive and welcoming manner.

• Ability to facilitate developmentally appropriate activities for children of varying ages and abilities. • Strong interpersonal skills and an approachable, professional manner when interacting in person with pediatric patients, families, and staff team members. • Patience and sensitivity in supporting children and families in a medical setting. Minimum Job Qualifications: High School Diploma or G.E.D.

required. Bachelor's degree preferred. No experience required. Experience working with and children and families in a medical setting preferred.
