City Woodland Hills State California Job Location Woodland Hills Regional Office Position Type Regular The Property Accounting team plays a critical role in supporting Essex's residential communities by partnering closely with Operations to ensure accurate, timely, and insightful financial reporting. As the Supervisor, Property Accounting , you will lead a team of Property Accountants responsible for the financial oversight of a diverse portfolio of multifamily communities.

This role combines people leadership, technical accounting expertise, and cross-functional collaboration to drive operational excellence and financial accuracy. The Supervisor serves as a key liaison between Accounting and Operations, guiding the month-end close process, reviewing financial results, identifying and resolving variances, and ensuring compliance with accounting policies and U.S. GAAP.

In addition to developing and mentoring team members, this position partners with leadership on process improvement initiatives, reporting, audits, budgeting activities, and strategic projects that support the company's continued growth and success. WHAT YOU WILL DO:   Supervise the day-to-day duties of a team of Property Accountants, providing feedback and one-on-one coaching as necessary, and approving timecards. Directly responsible for all communications with lead operational management including fielding and responding to questions directed to the Property Accounting team. Prepare and review journal entries as they relate to the month end close.

Have a solid understanding of sub ledger data and its impact on financial statements. Review financial statement variances during month-end and ensure that accounting transactions are complete, and balances are accurate. Coordinate, direct and guide the team to research items and to properly explain variances. Reviews balance sheet account reconciliations, including ensuring that outstanding items are cleared in a timely manner.

Review bank reconciliations in a timely manner, including reporting any unusual bank transactions, invalid disbursements, withdrawals, transfers, other issues and policy violations. Work closely with accounting management on process improvement projects. Assist with internal and external audit requests as needed. Assist with other ad hoc requests and projects as needed. Review the accuracy and completeness of monthly rent postings.

Assist with the preparation of accounting & management reports for executive distribution. Assist with annual budgeting as needed. WHAT YOU WILL NEED:   Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) from a four-year college or university in accounting or related field. 5+ years of accounting experience required. Solid knowledge of US GAAP. Experience with public accounting firm preferred. CPA certification preferred.

Yardi experience Preferred  Ability to review work of accounting staff and provide team the necessary resources to complete their work effectively and efficiently. Ability to make accurate and timely decisions. Supervisory and project management experience with a focus on residential Property management Accounting strongly preferred (Gross Potential rent, etc.)  WHAT THE JOB REQUIRES:   The position includes in-person work requirements consistent with the hybrid policy located at Essex's corporate office in Woodland Hills.
