As a Process Safety Engineering Co-op Student, with our Engineering Services team you will support early ‑ phase project development by contributing to process hazard evaluations, safety engineering deliverables, and knowledge ‑ sharing initiatives, while building foundational skills in process safety, risk analysis, and safety codes and standards under the guidance of senior engineers.
The Process Safety Engineering team supports safe and reliable project development by integrating process safety principles into concept, idea, and I ‑ phase projects and by executing key elements of the organization’s Process Safety Management (PSM) program. The team sits within ou r Home Office and plays a critical part in our larger E ngineering Services team . Responsibilities: Assist with PHA report review and quality control, including clarity checks and tracking action items and follow ‑ ups .
Contribute to Quantitative Risk Analysis (QRA) activities such as consequence modeling, basic risk calculations, and summarizing results for senior engineer review. Support functional safety deliverables, including SIL Selection (LOPA) documentation and Safety Requirements Specifications (SRS), under senior engineer guidance. Review and learn applicable codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., API, NFPA, CSA, CCPS) and support their application to early design decisions.
Research and share industry trends and lessons learned related to process safety, fire protection, and emerging technologies. Support departmental safety initiatives (safety summits, newsletters, monthly safety meetings) through coordination, content support, and communication. Your Skills : Strong interest in process safety, risk management, and engineering design Experience in participating and leading process hazard analysis Ability to interpret technical standards and apply them to practical engineering scenarios Proactive communicator comfortable working in multidisciplinary team settings Curious, self ‑ driven learner committed to staying updated on industry best practices Your Experience: Currently enrolled in a Chemical , Mechanical , Electrical or Industrial Engineering program and returning to school after the term is complete.
