Instructional Faculty FT - English and Reading

Job Description Montgomery College is seeking three full-time English and Reading faculty members to start in January 2027. The positions are located on the Takoma Park/Silver Spring, Rockville, and Germantown Campuses. We are   seeking   an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher who   exhibits   a high degree of professionalism, a strong commitment to our students, and the ability to motivate and educate in an engaging manner.

These positions   are   part of a collective bargaining unit. In the English and Reading Area, we have exceptionally talented faculty members who incorporate the latest pedagogy and best practices into their teaching. Their practices range from research essays on cultural identities to how social justice issues   impact   our communities and beyond. Our faculty members use creative and innovative approaches to help students think critically about their lives, their world, and their chosen career paths by incorporating critical reading and thinking skills into their English composition and literature courses.

Montgomery College English and Reading faculty members help students develop their skills to integrate digital storytelling, reflective writing, and creative writing into their student success writing toolkit—in addition to the traditional composition research essay. The faculty themselves practice a range of writing skills. They research, present, and write about best practices in teaching, globalizing the curriculum, enhancing student success, and creating engaging student experiences.

Montgomery College’s English and Reading faculty continue to publish and present their poetry, fiction, white papers, and research articles. They lead student academic conferences, student scholarly collections, and creative writing publications. Through their teaching, scholarship, and engagement with the College, the successful candidate will foster mission-mindedness, civic-mindedness, belonging, access, completion, and post-completion success .

The successful candidate will welcome the opportunity to work with students with diverse learning abilities. Teaching assignments may include various delivery modes, such as face-to-face, online,   hybrid,   and/or blended formats during days,   evenings,   and weekends. Montgomery College has multiple   campuses,   and faculty may be assigned to   teach   in-person at any of these campuses and teach online.

Duties include but are not limited to:   Teach 30 semester hours per academic year of composition courses ranging from introductory college-level composition to research-based composition. Develop teaching assignments that incorporate students’ majors, interdisciplinary learning, research skills, and success strategies. Teach a varied day, night, early morning, and weekend schedule of full-term, late start, and accelerated sections including opportunities for summer and winter teaching.

Teach courses in a variety of formats, including in-person, synchronous remote, and asynchronous distance learning. Engage students in their learning through active and collaborative learning approaches. Meet with students one-on-one in up to three conferences per semester and during office hours to   assist   them with being successful college students. Apply culturally relevant pedagogies and universal design to the teaching and learning process.

Advise students on   appropriate courses   for degree completion and transfer. Incorporate Blackboard and other relevant technology into instruction, including inexpensive or no-cost resources (OER) in   course   development and instruction. Serve on or lead department, discipline, campus, and college committees. Maintain an active program of professional development and   participate   in professional organizations and activities.
