Position Summary: The Preclinical MRI Scientist will play a pivotal role in shaping and supporting the preclinical MRI and PET research platforms at the McConnell Brain Imaging Centre (BIC).

This will include development and optimization of novel acquisition and analysis methods for the forthcoming 9.4 T Bruker MRI system, as well as active collaboration with MR Unit team members and platform users. The candidate will be asked to remain up to date on the latest MRI developments to collaborate effectively with other MRI and PET neuroimaging sites internationally. In this role, the Preclinical MRI Scientist will contribute to shaping the future of preclinical MRI research at the BIC and play a crucial role in translational research initiatives at The Neuro.

Primary Responsibilities: Execute everyday work on the preclinical MRI systems of the BIC. Enhance the portfolio of available MRI techniques and analysis methods available for preclinical MRI users by suggesting, developing, and implementing new MRI techniques and analysis tools. The candidate will also be responsible for translation of some of the techniques for human applications. Create and edit code and MRI documentation for MRI sequences, protocols, and ethics protocols.

Also, the candidate should be involved in development of PET acquisition/analysis approaches. Maintain a strong collaboration with the imaging infrastructure manufacturers in the preclinical MRI and PET sector. Collaborate seamlessly with the MRU team, MNI animal technicians/veterinarians working at the Centre for Neurological Disease Models, RF engineering members, and Bruker Collaboration Scientists.

The individual should also generally work with the BIC team to maintain foster relevant collaborations with industry. Collaborate with McGill researchers, external users and collaborators, and their teams to support their research projects performed at the preclinical MRI/PET systems. The individual will assist in streamlining translational, “animal to human” projects being undertaken at the BIC (including simultaneous MRI/PET projects at the animal and human levels).

Contribute to publications by reviewing MRI protocol descriptions, guiding and reviewing image analyses, and reviewing the interpretation of MRI data. Mentor graduate students and staff within the MRU and the broader BIC user community. Researched expertise and qualities include: The ability to communicate with scientists to optimize preclinical imaging and analysis techniques for their research projects.

The candidate will also assist with translation of preclinical MRI methods to human applications. The ability to oversee designing, coding, testing, and maintaining acquisition sequences for the preclinical and some of the human MRI systems of the BIC. The candidate’s primary role will be working on the preclinical MRI systems. The candidate should have appropriate experience animal handling and related procedures for murine and NHP imaging studies.

An asset is previous experience in preclinical PET imaging/analysis methods. Be an active member of both the BIC and international MRI communities to remain up to date on the latest sis methodologies that would benefit the BIC. The salary level will be commensurate with the candidate's level of training and experience. It will be in accordance with the University's compensation guidelines.
