Northrop Grumman’s Defense Systems sector is currently seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to support Tank Ammunition assembly activities at our Rocket Center, WV location just outside of Cumberland MD.
The Allegany Ballistics Laboratory (ABL) site in Rocket Center designs, develops, and manufactures tactical rocket motors, medium caliber ammunition, composite components and end items, and fuze and electronics equipment. For decades, the dedicated and highly skilled team at ABL have supported national security efforts by developing and building defense systems for DoD customers and U.S. allies. This position will we be located on-site at our Rocket Center, WV location.

Job Responsibilities Adhere to all department and plant safety rules Review part prints and specifications to ensure production hardware and test articles meet safety, quality, engineering and configuration requirements Instruct machine operators on technique and operation of manufacturing equipment and gaging Perform observations of manufacturing process to establish reasonable expectation of daily throughput and opportunities for improvement Interface with all levels and departments of plant to support production Assist operations and maintenance in machine setup, training and trouble shooting of processes and equipment Prepare process drawings and work instructions Participate in tooling design and gage selection Monitor manufacturing process through review of SPC data Provide analysis and data to support review boards Willingness to work off shift when needed Basic Qualifications Level 2: Bachelor of Science degree in Manufacturing, Industrial, Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent STEM degree plus 2 years of total relevant experience; or Master’s degree in Manufacturing, Industrial, Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent STEM degree plus 0 years of relevant experience.
Level 3: Bachelor of Science degree in Manufacturing, Industrial, Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent STEM degree plus 5 years of total relevant experience; or Master’s degree in Manufacturing, Industrial, Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent STEM degree plus 3 years of relevant experience. Experience with HTV and RTV molding processes and equipment Experience with automated fluid dispensing equipment Experience with operation and programming of robotic part loaders Ability to interact and communicate effectively with external customers and all plant personnel Computer skills including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook Experience using CAD software Working knowledge of GD&T Have an understanding and working knowledge of Lean manufacturing Knowledge of mechanical manufacturing and production processes Ability to interpret 2D drawings.
