Senior Technician in Upstream Process Development (USP) (d/f/m)

Job Description The role is part of Biosimilar Technical Development (BTD), based in our new development centre in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Our aspiration is to be innovative in applying science to develop technologies and processes that will enable production of high-quality biosimilars. We are looking for a Senior Technician with experience in an upstream bioprocess development or manufacturing environment.

Your key responsibilities: The primary focus of this role is the planning, execution, and documentation of cell culture processes and related experiments, ensuring full compliance with established procedures and guidelines. This involves routine cell culture operations such as thawing, passaging, and banking of mammalian suspension cells, employing strong aseptic technique. You will be executing USP activities such as preparation and operation of various bioreactors systems (Ambr250, Wave, benchtop and pilot scale stirred-tank reactors), operation of autoclaves, buffer and media preparation.

Monitoring lab systems via SCADA. Participate in training and coaching of technicians on methods/procedures within own area of responsibility. Contributing to maintenance and management of laboratory infrastructure and inventory. What you will bring to the role: Minimum secondary school degree in pharmaceutical, chemistry or other relevant fields. Minimum 3 years of relevant experience. Attention to detail and problem-solving skills Intermediate to fluent in English.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools. What we offer: Job location: Ljubljana Contract type: permanent with a six-month probation period Expected weekly working hours: 40 *Pay range: €26,720 – €40,080 gross yearly * Salary at Sandoz is based on job level, qualifications, specific skills, and work experience. Fully proficient candidates are usually placed around the market median, less experienced candidates lower in the range, and those with strong or niche expertise higher.

When determining placement within the range, we also consider internal pay equity and external market data. Our compensation package additionally includes: Annual bonus (STI): percentage of annual salary. Vacation allowance: in 2026 it was €2,450.00 net. Christmas bonus: in 2025 it was €2,100 gross. Voluntary Additional Pension Scheme: The company fully covers the contribution for your supplementary pension plan, amounting to 5.844% of your gross salary (the maximum annual amount is 3,224.18 EUR).
