Available Title(s): 674H-YY_CS_NPS - Cook 2 Business Title: Cook 2 Employee Type: Classified Position Details: The Opportunity: As a Cook 2 , you will work under the general supervision of the General Manager and Catering Executive Chef and be responsible for preparing menu items, special menus, and catering offerings.
You will collaborate with the Catering Executive Chef to develop new menu items on an annual and seasonal basis. You will maintain appropriate par stock levels to ensure sufficient product is available while minimizing waste caused by over-ordering. You will establish production pars and determine batch cooking levels during peak meal periods and a la carte cooking levels during off-peak hours. You will ensure the proper handling and storage of all food products and consistently demonstrate sound judgment, integrity, and a commitment to quality in every item you prepare.
In this role, you will also be responsible for the safe and proper use, care, and cleaning of equipment, as well as securing your work area at the end of each shift. You will maintain required records, help direct production activities, and provide exceptional customer service to guests. Monthly Salary: $4,004 to $4,746 | Range 39 Steps F - M | Successful candidates are typically hired at the beginning of the salary range and receive scheduled salary increment increases in accordance with the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement.
In accordance with RCW 49.58.110 , the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position. Required Qualifications: Two (2) years cooking experience in a large scale food service or culinary operation which includes six (6) months experience directing the work of others. Completion of course in large‑scale cooking may be substituted for one (1) year of experience; OR one (1) year as a Cook 1 in State service; OR equivalent education/experience.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Food Handler’s Permit within 14 days of employment. Must have, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver’s license and meet requirements in accordance with SPPM 7.10 and departmental driving standards. Preferred Qualifications: Two to five years experience in increasingly responsible food service positions. Multi-faceted food experience. Experience in a la carte restaurant cooking and various international/ethnic cuisines.
Experience leading and training employees. General knowledge of commercial grade kitchen equipment use, safety, and maintenance.
