The Opportunity The Mechanical Specialist provides expert-level technical leadership and support for natural gas compression assets, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operation. This role works closely with field operations and technical services teams to resolve complex equipment issues, improve asset reliability, and mentor technical personnel across the organization. What you'll do Technical Support & Operations Provide advanced mechanical and technical support to field teams, engineering, and regional management to ensure the safe and reliable operation of natural gas compression assets.
Deliver technical guidance and hands-on support to Operations Technicians related to equipment operation, maintenance practices, advanced troubleshooting and issue resolution. Act as a key liaison between Operations and Technical Services during equipment issue escalation, from initial identification through root cause analysis and solution implementation. Support incident investigations, equipment failures, and emergency operational challenges.
Mentoring & Knowledge Sharing Mentor Operations Technicians through on-the-job coaching, troubleshooting activities, and formal knowledge-sharing sessions. Develop and deliver technical presentations, training materials, and best-practice documentation. Support the technical development of Operations Engineers within Technical Services. Reliability & Continuous Improvement Analyze equipment performance data and recommend improvements to preventative maintenance strategies, lifecycle management plans, and asset reliability programs.
Lead and participate in Root Cause Failure Analyses (RCFA) and recommend corrective and preventative actions. Lead and support cost-benefit analyses, risk assessments, and reliability studies using analytical tools to support data-driven decisions related to system performance, safety, and asset integrity. Promote standardization of equipment, maintenance practices and operating procedures across facilities.
Lead annual Facility Health Assessments for compression facilities, prioritize equipment risks and recommend mitigation strategies. Project & Change Support Participate in general plant maintenance project scope development by providing recommendations to support the Operations Engineering team in the creation of high-quality Engineering Justifications. Initiate, lead, and support the rollout of new equipment, processes and procedures, ensuring alignment with operational needs and continuous improvement objectives (e.g., Management of Change).
Provide mechanical expertise during the design, construction, commissioning, and operational setup of new or modified assets. Identify, evaluate, and share best practices, emerging technologies, and improvement opportunities that enhance safety, efficiency, and reliability. Minimum Qualifications Interprovincial Red Seal Journeyman Millwright (Industrial Mechanic), Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology or Mechanical Engineering Degree Candidates with a Mechanical Engineering degree must also possess significant practical field experience and hands-on exposure to mechanical systems, equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and operational environments.
10+ years of related experience Proven experience in troubleshooting complex mechanical issues and leading reliability initiatives Ability to work independently and collaboratively across multiple disciplines Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to mentor and influence technical teams Preferred Qualif
