Job Details: Position Summary The Gate Attendant Lead supports safe, secure, and efficient access-control operations at the Tyson Berry Street facility. In addition to performing gate attendant duties, this position provides day-to-day guidance to assigned Gate Attendants and Scale House Operators, coordinates shift activities and coverage, reinforces standard procedures, and serves as the first point of escalation for routine operational concerns.
The Lead monitors the movement of Team Members, visitors, vendors, contractors, truck drivers, vehicles, trailers, and materials entering or leaving the facility and supports Scale House operations. Responsibilities include capturing and recording truck and trailer weights, entering load and manifest information, printing and maintaining weigh tickets, conducting lot checks, communicating lot changes, and reporting equipment, maintenance, safety, or operational concerns.
The Lead maintains accurate records, communicates with plant management and external partners, and helps ensure compliance with company safety, security, access-control, and Scale House requirements. This position escalates disciplinary, staffing, safety, security, emergency, and significant operational matters to the appropriate supervisor or manager when necessary. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provide daily work direction and operational support to Gate Attendants and Scale House personnel while promoting consistent, professional application of site procedures.
Coordinate assignments, breaks, shift handoffs, and available coverage; promptly notify supervision of staffing gaps or operational concerns. Assist with onboarding, job-specific training, coaching, and procedure refreshers for Gate Attendants and assigned Scale House personnel. Verify that required gate and Scale House logs, visitor and vehicle records, weigh tickets, inspection forms, load sheets, manifest sheets, driver schedules, keys, badges, radios, and other assigned records or equipment are complete, accurate, and properly transferred between shifts.
Monitor and control the entry and exit of Team Members, visitors, vendors, contractors, truck drivers, vehicles, trailers, and materials in accordance with company requirements. Verify identification, credentials, appointments, delivery information, and access authorization before granting entry. Operate the Scale House computer system and associated equipment to capture incoming, outgoing, empty, farm, shrink, final, and other required truck or trailer weights.
Enter required information accurately in the Scale House management system and applicable manifest, incoming-load, and driver-schedule records; print, record, and distribute weigh tickets as required. Conduct and document assigned trailer and lot checks and report discrepancies, damage, suspicious activity, or safety concerns. Inspect live-haul cages or modules upon arrival for visible damage and promptly notify Live Receiving management when concerns are identified.
Notify plant supervision and USDA of lot changes in accordance with established procedures. Communicate by telephone and radio with drivers, plant management, Live Receiving or Evisceration supervision, USDA, transportation partners, and other departments as needed to support efficient operations. Monitor items brought into and removed from the facility and escalate suspected policy violations or unauthorized activity.
Respond to routine gate or Scale House concerns, complaints, access issues, equipment problems, alarms, and incidents; follow emergency procedures and contact supervision, maintenance, or emergency responders when required. Report observed plant, Scale House, security, or equipment issues to the appropriate management or maintenance contact. Maintain confidentiality and safeguard company information, records, keys, badges, and access-control resources.
