SUPO) Why this role matters: As a Smart Manufacturing Engineer, Mechanical, you will play a key role in how ICEYE builds satellites at scale. You will design and own critical mechanical and electromechanical systems from Mechanical Ground Support Equipment (MGSE) to production test jigs that keep our production lines safe, efficient and reliable.
Working in a multi‑disciplinary Smart Manufacturing Engineering team, you’ll set standards, work directly with others, and help us anticipate and remove bottlenecks as we continue to scale our operations. Who We Are ICEYE is the world leader in sovereign intelligence from space. We deliver persistent monitoring capabilities to detect and respond to changes in any location on Earth. ICEYE owns the world's largest and most advanced SAR (synthetic aperture radar) satellite constellation.
To our customers we provide intelligence with unmatched quality, latency and revisit times, in any weather, day or night. To governments who choose to operate their own constellation we provide this proven capability as a sovereign system. ICEYE-built constellations serve customers in defence and intelligence, environmental monitoring, insurance and emergency management. We enable fast decisions that contribute to a safer future.
Founded and headquartered in Finland, ICEYE operates globally with over 1000 employees across Europe, North America, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific. Your day-to-day responsibilities Design, implement and own Mechanical Ground Support Equipment (MGSE) and other mechanical / electromechanical systems used in satellite production and integration. Develop production test jigs and verification systems (e.g.
fixtures, subsystem assembly jigs, custom rigs) in close collaboration with electronics and software engineers. Take designs from concept through detailed CAD, documentation, manufacturing support and commissioning on the production floor. Define and improve standards, frameworks and documentation practices for mechanical and mechatronic designs within Smart Manufacturing Engineering. Proactively identify current and future bottlenecks in production processes and propose data‑driven mitigation plans.
Collaborate closely with Production, AIT Engineering and other Engineering teams to ensure systems are robust, maintainable and aligned with operational needs. Contribute to roadmaps and prioritization for production systems, helping the team focus on the highest‑impact projects. What we’re looking for Must haves: 6–8+ years of experience in mechanical or electromechanical engineering, focused on production systems, test equipment, or similar.
Proven track record designing and delivering mechanical / support equipment such as MGSE, lifting systems, dollies or fixtures for large, high‑value hardware. Hands‑on experience designing and implementing production test jigs or verification systems (e.g. fixtures for electronics testing, flying probe interfaces, custom test rigs). Solid understanding of how mechanics, electronics and software/controls fit together and comfortable collaborating closely with electronics and software engineers.
Strong CAD skills and experience taking designs from concept through detailed design, manufacturing and on‑site commissioning. Experience in at least one high‑reliability or complex production domain (e.g. space, aerospace, automotive, robotics, industrial automation). Demonstrated seniority: leading projects, taking end‑to‑end ownership and mentoring junior engineers. Willingness and ability to work onsite in Espoo in production and integration environments.
Nice to haves Experience with satellite or spacecraft integration and MGSE. Experience working across multiple production sites or in a global ma
