CLAM is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to lead the day-to-day accounting operations that keep our organization financially sound and audit-ready. This role oversees core accounting functions, including accounts payable and receivable, the general ledger, reconciliations, and monthly close, while maintaining the multi-fund accounting practices our grant-funded, mission-driven work requires.
You will also play a key role in our real estate development work, managing the accounting behind construction draws, contractor payments, and project cost tracking in close partnership with our development team. This is a role for someone who is as comfortable in the technical details of GAAP and fund accounting as they are explaining financial information clearly to colleagues across the organization.
Reporting to the Executive Director and Director of Operations, you will partner closely with CLAM's outsourced CPA firm on audit, tax, and technical accounting matters, and work with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and funders to keep CLAM's financial reporting accurate and on time. What You'll Bring ● You bring precision and rigor to financial detail while keeping sight of the bigger picture ● You're comfortable managing multiple funding sources, deadlines, and reporting requirements at once ● You communicate financial information clearly to colleagues who aren't accountants ● You take ownership of processes and look for ways to make them more efficient ● You're motivated by mission-driven work and want your technical skills to serve a cause you believe in ● You collaborate well with external partners, including CPA firms, auditors, and funders Responsibilities: Accounting & Financial Operations ● Manage day-to-day operations including accounts payable/receivable, general ledger, reconciliations, monthly close, reporting, and cash management ● Maintain multi-fund accounting, cost allocations, restricted grants, and accounting systems for accurate reporting and audit readiness ● Reconcile monthly benefits premium payments (including payroll deductions and any FSA activity) and manage related account fees; partner with HR on discrepancy resolution ● Support continuous improvement of accounting processes and promote financial literacy across the organization ● Maintain accounting systems, process reimbursements, and prepare financial reports as needed.
Development & Project Accounting ● Manage accounting for affordable housing development projects, including construction draws, contractor payments, reimbursement requests, and project cost tracking in partnership with (title) ● Partner with development staff to support project reporting, financial closeout, cost recovery, and cost certifications Budgeting, Reporting & Compliance ● Support annual budgeting, forecasting, and budget-to-actual reporting ● Prepare financial reports for Executive Director, Board of Directors, funders, lenders, and public agencies ● Manage grant reporting and serve as primary liaison for annual audits, working closely with CLAM’s outsourced CPA firm Required ● Bachelor's degree in Accounting ● 5+ years of accounting experience, with progressively increasing responsibilities ● Nonprofit accounting, fund accounting, and grant compliance experience ● Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, internal controls, and account reconciliations ● Experience preparing financial statements, supporting annual audits, and managing multiple funding sources or projects ● Proficiency with QuickBooks online & ancillary apps and advanced Microsoft Excel skills ● Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills with ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines ● This role partners with CLAM's outsourced CPA/accounting firm on tax, audit, and technical accounting matters.
