As an Assistant Advocate, you'll join Browne Jacobson's established barrister team - comprising 14 barristers and 4 advocates - providing a high-quality advocacy service across each of the firm's sectors and all of our offices. Based in Manchester , this is an opportunity for an exceptional advocate to ensure that clients receive expert representation across a broad range of proceedings., Advocacy: appearing before courts, tribunals and regulators, including the Teaching Regulation Agency professional conduct panels, the County Court (District Judges in private, small claims hearings, interim applications and case management conferences), and the First Tier Tribunal (Health, Education and Social Care Chamber) in respect of Education Health Care Plan appeals and disability discrimination claims against schools and other educational institutions.

Case preparation: managing cases from start to finish, including reviewing and summarising detailed documentary evidence, preparing case management plans and initial client reports, undertaking legal research, producing chronologies, and advising on evidence in professional misconduct, inquest and civil litigation files. Being a team player: assisting members of the team at inquests and trials, supporting the development of junior and temporary fee earners, building relationships with key clients, delivering advocacy training, and always acting in a commercial and efficient manner.

A persuasive and effective communicator: able to confidently articulate complex legal matters before a variety of courts and tribunals, whilst establishing and maintaining professional relationships with clients and colleagues. Organised and detail-oriented: able to manage your own time effectively whilst balancing a demanding caseload, review and analyse large volumes of complex material under time pressure, and apply common sense and pragmatism alongside close attention to detail.

Qualified or working towards qualification: you will have completed, or be working towards completion of, the Bar Practice Course (or equivalent). Being Called to the Bar of England and Wales and having prior experience of appearing before disciplinary panels or in the County Court would be advantageous.
