Assistant Head of School

We are looking for an inspirational and ambitious Assistant Head who shares our commitment to providing a therapeutic, person-centred learning environment where every young person can thrive. Working closely with the Head of School, you will play a key role in the leadership and day-to-day management of the school. You will lead on developing teaching and learning, curriculum, assessment, careers education, work experience and enrichment opportunities, ensuring pupils receive a high-quality education that prepares them for adulthood.

You will support and develop staff through coaching, mentoring and professional development, monitor the quality of teaching and learning across the school, and use assessment information to help drive pupil progress and whole-school improvement. As a member of the senior leadership team, you will contribute to strategic planning, school improvement, safeguarding, staff development and the overall success of the school, while promoting high expectations, positive relationships and excellent outcomes for all pupils.

We offer life skills and a wide range of GCSE/ Functional Skills/BTEC accreditations alongside a functional skills/entry level pathway. Behaviours across the school are excellent., Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent. Leadership or management qualification (desirable) A proven track record of excellent teaching within relevant key stages and/or a special educational needs environment. Experience of leading a significant area, phase or inclusion provision, including responsibility for assessment and raising standards.

Experience of turning policy into effective and successful practice. Effective leadership and team management skills, with the ability to coach, mentor and develop others. Experience of analysing pupil progress and assessment data to support school improvement. Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with pupils, families, colleagues and external agencies. Experience of working within, or contributing to, a senior leadership team.

A clear understanding of teaching, learning, behaviour support and curriculum development.
