Department ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH & SAFETY (UA-ENHS-IUINA)Department Information Indiana University Environmental Health and Safety (IUEHS) works to ensure that all Indiana University (IU) campuses are safe and healthy places to live, study, work, and visit. IUEHS develops, implements, and operates comprehensive programs to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as university policies.

Job Summary Performs annual audits of laboratories designated as Biosafety Level 1 or 2 and reports audit findings to individual staff and faculty. Performs maintenance of a database that tracks laboratory audits and deficiencies identified during audits. Develops and documents standard operating procedures within the Biosafety program. Conducts laboratory audits on regional campuses and on IU School of Medicine campuses, as assigned.

Consults principal investigators (PIs) and research staff on the remediation of deficiencies. Liaisons with the Institutional Biosafety Committee to initiate amendments required to remediate audit findings. Develops, reviews, and delivers biosafety training programs. Investigates spills and accidents and assists in the creation or remediation and preventative measures. Qualifications Combinations of related education and experience may be considered.

It requires effective communication, the ability to operate machinery, tools, and controls. The role requires the ability to ascend/descend ladders/stairs, and to position one's self in low level positions, detect a variety of chemicals and/or gases. The role requires the ability to ascend to rooftops and move in tight spaces to perform and complete inspections. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.This role may require occasional travel to Bloomington, Indiana.
