We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our team within the Cancer Pharmacy Team. This pivotal role is key to ensuring that the correct chemotherapy drugs are available in time for the patient to receive the treatment. You will need to possess good communication and interpersonal skills, as an important element to this role is the liaison between patients, pharmacists, clinicians and the drug suppliers.
This busy role will require you to be highly organised, have attention to detail and possess the ability to work individually as well as part of a larger team. If you would like to make a positive contribution to a patient's care experience, then we would like to hear from you., The Lead Chemotherapy Coordinator provides day-to-day administrative and coordination support for the systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT) service.
This includes oral and intravenous chemotherapy, immunotherapy and support medicines. Working as part of a wider team, the post holder will help ensure prescriptions and medicines progress through the required steps and reach patients at the right time. They will communicate with pharmacy, nursing and clinical teams, external suppliers and homecare services, escalating any delays as required. The post holder will also support and guide Band 3 Chemotherapy Coordinators.
Full training will be provided in the relevant systems and processes., The Oxford Cancer Centre provides comprehensive care for patients with cancer within Oxfordshire and surrounding areas. The services within the cancer centre work closely through multi-disciplinary combined clinics and meetings. The centre comprises of: oncology, clinical haematology and bone marrow transplant unit, specialist palliative care service, private patient unit and a Cancer Research UK Cancer Research Centre, which has Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre (ECMC) and Biomedical Research Centre (BMRC) status.
There is also a Chemotherapy Day Unit at the Horton Hospital in Banbury., Coordinate the administrative steps involved in supplying oral and intravenous SACT and supportive medicines to patients. Use and manage the relevant electronic systems, task lists and shared mailboxes to check the progress of prescriptions and medicine supply. Identify prescriptions or tasks that are missing information or awaiting action, and work with the relevant teams to resolve these.
Liaise with pharmacy services, clinical teams, external suppliers and homecare providers to ensure medicines reach patients within the required timescales. Keep track of medicine ordering deadlines and promptly raise late prescriptions, changes, urgent requests or possible delays. Help arrange collection, delivery, postage or another suitable supply route when the usual arrangements cannot be used.
Work with day treatment units, pharmacy and clinical teams to help reduce avoidable delays and medicine wastage. Maintain an overview of outstanding prescriptions and pharmacy screening work across the relevant service areas. Coordinate daily huddles or meetings, sharing any gaps or pressures with the team. Use agreed trackers and information to highlight when workload, staffing or skill mix may affect treatment or supplier deadlines.
Work with senior colleagues to support the safe prioritisation of work. Help prepare and communicate weekend or out-of-hours arrangements when requested by the senior pharmacy team. Communication and Patient Support Provide a helpful point of contact for routine SACT coordinatio
