Clinical Laboratory Scientist - Campus Health and Wellbeing Job No: 560864 Work Type: Staff Location: Central California: Cal Poly - San Luis Obispo Campus Categories: Bargaining Unit: Unit 2 - CSUEU - Health Care Support, Appointment Type: Probationary, Job Search Category/Discipline: Health Professionals, Time Basis: Full Time, Workplace Type (Exclude Inst Fac): On-site (work in-person at business location) Job Summary Reporting to the Director of Clinical Services, the role of the Clinical Laboratory Scientist is to perform a variety of clinical laboratory tests, which provide the medical staff with essential data and information for the detection, diagnosis, and treatment of illnesses, diseases, and other conditions found within the university setting.

The Clinical Laboratory Scientists' primary responsibility is to perform the pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical lab testing and is responsible for quality control, equipment maintenance and reporting and documentation. Duties and testing include receiving patients, performance of phlebotomy, specimen processing, operation of analyzers and microscopic analysis in the areas of hematology, urinalysis, immunology, chemistry and molecular testing, according to established policies and procedures.

The laboratory utilizes electronic health records and laboratory information systems for the ordering, receiving, reporting and data retrieval of lab testing performed. Additionally, the position assists in the technical administration of the clinical laboratory as needed. Department Summary The purpose of Campus Health & Wellbeing is to help students achieve and maintain academic success and lifelong health and wellbeing by providing timely and appropriate primary and acute health care, disease and injury prevention education, professional mental health, outreach, educational services and campus consultations.

Key Qualifications Possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities consistent with a valid California Clinical Laboratory Scientist license, including competency in phlebotomy, and maintain all required continuing education to ensure licensure and professional competency. Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of the theories, principles, and practices of clinical laboratory science, including the operation, maintenance, and care of laboratory equipment.

Demonstrate thorough knowledge of patient privacy and information security requirements, including the protection of electronic health information maintained in laboratory information systems, electronic health records, and laboratory analyzers, in compliance with HIPAA and applicable regulations. Demonstrate the ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment in handling sensitive patient information.

Possess working knowledge of specimen preparation techniques, including slide preparation and the appropriate use of stains for microscopic examination. Demonstrate thorough knowledge of clinical laboratory disciplines, methodologies, tests, and procedures, including chemical, physical, microscopic, bacteriological, serological, hematological, immunological, molecular, and other laboratory diagnostic testing.

Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in clinical laboratory science or equivalent from an accredited institution or equivalent post-secondary education, training and experience as defined by the California Division of Laboratory Science. Two years of increasingly responsible and diverse experience as a journey-level Clinical Laboratory Scientist. Licenses, Certificates, Credentials: Valid California Clinical Laboratory Scientist.

Basic life support (or higher) cardiopulmonary resuscitation and automated external defibrillator (CPR/AED) certification for Healthcare Providers (by date of hire).
