Clinical Practice Educator

Oxford Children's Hospital (part of Oxford University Healthcare Trust) is the Primary Treatment Centre (PCT) for children with cancer in the Thames Valley Region. Kamran's Ward comprises a 9 bedded inpatient ward and a busy day care facility. It is supported by our team of Paediatric Oncology Outreach Nurses who visit local patients in their homes and several Paediatric Oncology Shared Care Units throughout the Thames Valley.

Main duties will include: Working alongside learners at all stages of development to facilitate learning. Identifying and supporting learning needs of individuals and the wider team. Developing and updating training resources. Contributing to the delivery of education programmes within the unit, across the Directorate and wider network. Respond to educational requirements that emerge from service needs.

Be actively involved in policy development and implementation. Maintain own clinical competencies. Maintain a high profile within the clinical area acting as a role model positively influencing practice at all times and challenging poor practice. The role holder will spend the remainder of their time in clinical practice working within the B6 clinical workforce to: Provide clinical leadership ensuring a high standard of individualised nursing and family centred care is delivered to critically ill.

Work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team, communicating effectively with all levels of medical and nursing staff. Uphold our Nursing Philosophy of Care. Effectively manage the ward on a day-to-day basis., The Clinical Practice Educator will identify training needs, plan, implement and evaluate educational activities for students, new starters and existing members of staff. The post-holder will demonstrate specialist knowledge and skills commensurate with a clinical expert and effective leader; serve as a role-model; an agent of change and a facilitator of work-based learning.

Explicit within the role and the outcomes required of it, the CPE will work collegiately to ensure standards are established, implemented and sustained, particularly those related to staff knowledge, skills development and patient safety. The post holder will work 80% of their time clinically (not in standard staffing numbers) working with students, new starters and existing staff especially those who are doing post graduate studies and research.

The CPE will work 20% of their time supporting Associate Clinical Practice Educators in identifying training and education needs and planning, implementing and evaluating education activities in their clinical area of practice.
