POSITION DESCRIPTION The Right to Play (RTP) Community Mentor is a key member of the Youth & Family Wellness Camp team. This role brings the Camp’s mission—holistic wellness, land-based learning, recreation, cultural connection, and life promotion—to First Nation communities through community-based programming. The Community Mentor delivers community-driven, culturally relevant, and play-based activities that build leadership, life skills, confidence, and well-being among children and youth.

Programming is delivered both at the Camp and within First Nation communities, requiring flexibility in scheduling, regular travel, evening programming, and occasional weekend work. Position Title:    Community Mentor (existing) Department:      Youth and Family Wellness Camp Salary:                 $50,000-$60,000 Term:                  Full-Time – 40 hours per week, irregular hours Location:            371 Strecker Road, Kenora, ON Reports to:         Sports and Recreation Manager DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Program Delivery and Facilitation Deliver safe, engaging, culturally grounded programming for youth at the Camp and in communities.

Lead youth in recreational, cultural, and play-based activities, adapting to different ages, abilities, and interests. Facilitate learning environments that encourage curiosity, confidence, belonging, and relationship-building. Deliver consistent year-round programming that reflects youth voice and supports leadership development. Support youth-led initiatives and community-driven coaching, mentorship, and recreation activities.

Build positive, supportive relationships with participants while upholding child-safeguarding protocols. Program Development and Planning Prepare lesson plans, workshop materials, activity outlines, and monthly program schedules. Coordinate logistics for programming, including registration, venues, transportation, equipment, and set-up. Work with Camp Managers to integrate recreational and cultural activities into broader Camp and community programming.

Assist in planning and delivering community events, tournaments, feasts, and cultural gatherings, including volunteer coordination and event support. Recognize and celebrate youth leadership, volunteer contributions, and community participation. Community Engagement and Partnership Development Collaborate with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and community members to support intergenerational learning, events, and cultural continuity.

Contribute to the delivery of Camp and community-based events, feasts, gatherings, and seasonal celebrations. Strengthen relationships with community staff, service providers, schools, and agencies to increase youth engagement and program awareness. Represent the Camp at community events, meetings, and information booths. Promote Anishinaabe values, teachings, and the Seven Sacred Teachings in all interactions.

Serve as a positive role model, fostering respect, humility, leadership, and cultural connection. Administration, Evaluation and Reporting Maintain organized records of programming, attendance, logistics, and participant engagement. Complete monthly reports, financial tracking, evaluation tools, and required program documentation for KCA and RTP. Gather participant feedback, photos, stories, and evaluation data to support reporting, storytelling, and program development.

Support monitoring, evaluation, and continuous improvement efforts for Camp and community programming.
