The post holder will be required to share with consultant colleagues the responsibility for providing outpatient and inpatient services for the local population and in doing so, foster excellent working relationships within and outside the General Surgical department, including medical, nursing, secretarial and support staff, General Practitioners and management teams. The post will also work with the Directorate Management team to assist in the strategic planning and modernisation of General Surgical services, deliver internal and external targets for patient activity and achieve financial balance.

The post will be part of the consultant emergency on call rota on a 1:8 basis with a 10-session job plan with enhanced payment for the on-call commitment. The post holder will be based at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital, Llantrisant, South Wales. The Department of General Surgery is part of the Planned Care Directorate and spans all 3 District General Hospital sites; Prince Charles Hospital in Merthyr Tydfil, Royal Glamorgan Hospital in Llantrisant and Princess of Wales Hospital in Bridgend.

The post holder may be required to work across other sites within the Health Board.
