The Immunology Department at Leicester Royal Infirmary consists of a specialist Immunology Laboratory, Adult and Paediatric Immunodeficiency services, and an Adult Allergy service which is delivered in conjunction with the Adult Allergy department based in Glenfield General Hospital. The service is accredited to QPIDS and IQAS standards. The Immunology Laboratory offers a comprehensive range of immunology assays both locally and regionally and is fully accredited by UKAS.

The Laboratory is co-located with the clinical offices within a fully integrated Department on the Leicester Royal Infirmary site, with plans for a new purpose-built laboratory and offices in progress. The Leicester Immunology Department is a member of the Trent Regional Immunology and Allergy Consortium (TRIAC), which aims to ensure provision of high-quality Clinical Immunology and Allergy services across the region., The Adult Clinical Immunology and Allergy Department provides outpatient clinics for adult patients with suspected or diagnosed immunodeficiencies and allergies, advice and guidance for clinicians within the region, supervision and management of immunoglobulin replacement for patients with primary and secondary immune deficiencies, and participation in the local immunodeficiency and allergy MDTs and the subregional immunoglobulin advisory panel., The overriding purpose is to support the provision of highest quality patient care through personal actions and continuous improvement.

Sharing responsibility with current consultants for both clinical and laboratory immunology services Sharing in laboratory reporting and liaison with service users (in association with medical and clinical scientist colleagues) regarding interpretation of diagnostic results and planning appropriate immunological investigation of patients Participation in out-patient clinics in adult immunology / immunodeficiency and allergy, including supervision of nurse led clinics Participation in multidisciplinary team meetings.

Responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness, and the proper functioning of the department; Cover for colleagues' annual leave and other authorised absences; To participate in service development and business planning in collaboration with the other Consultants in the department, the CMG and local GPs and commissioners within the local CCGs; Participation in the service maintaining accreditation as a Primary Immunodeficiency Centre under the QPIDS accreditation scheme and as an Allergy Centre under IQAS accreditation scheme.

Participation in the provision of a high quality Clinical Immunology and Allergy service in UHL by working with colleagues in the Trent Immunology and Allergy Consortium (TRIAC) network to common standards of care. Participation in the provision of a reliable, high quality Immunology laboratory service in order to provide routine and specialist services to nationally accepted standards (UKAS). The post-holder is expected to participate in teaching and training of junior staff and other clinical staff groups.

The appointee will also have supervision responsibilities for junior medical staff within the specialty. If appropriate the post-holder will be named in the contract of junior staff as the person responsible for overseeing their training and as an initial source of advice to such doctors regarding their careers. Professional supervision and management of junior medical staff including the observance of local employment and human resource policies and procedures; Responsibilities for carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and contributing to undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing medical education activity, locally and nationally; Participating in medical audit, the Trusts Clinical Governance processes and in CPD CPD is provided in job plans and attendance at audit and other governance meetings is mandatory; Managerial, including budgetary responsibilities where appropria
