Consultant Psychiatrist

The post holder will provide senior medical input to the Gender Identity Clinic, provide consultant care for patients within the service, hold weekly outpatient clinics and work collaboratively with other members of the multidisciplinary team. They will also be expected to offer advice to other healthcare professionals in primary and secondary care. The Gender Identity Clinic (GIC) is the largest and oldest gender clinic in the UK and accepts referrals from all over England for adults with issues related to gender from patients aged 18 and over.

It is a largemulti-disciplinary team, including psychologists, psychiatrists, endocrinologists, speech and language therapists, General Practitioners, Sexual Health physicians and nurses. We work together to provide holistic gender care, focusing on the biological/medical, psychological and social aspects of gender ·Provide specialist medical assessment, diagnosis and formulation of patients with gender dysphoria.

·Formulate, deliver and/or coordinate patient-centered management plans. ·Work with the multidisciplinary team to provide safe, effective care to service users. ·Advise on diagnosis and treatment both within the team and to external providers. ·Coordinate and/or provide (or ensure referral to the appropriate service) up to date evidence-based interventions to service users · Provide advice on cross-sex hormone therapy and liaise with primary care to ensure its delivery and effective monitoring.

·Provide specialist assessment of readiness and eligibility for surgical intervention and refer appropriately. ·Collaborate with GPs, hospital doctors and primary care physicians regarding the physical health care of patients. ·Liaise with colleagues in other community and specialist teams. ·Contribute to the on-going training and development programme within the team. ·Hold weekly outpatient clinics.

·Communicate and liaise with GPs, psychologists, and other disciplines and agencies as appropriate. ·Communicate with relatives, significant others and partners, in limited circumstances. ·Complete administrative tasks necessary for the fulfilment of the clinical role. ·Adhere to all relevant policies and procedures within the Trust.
