It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws.
This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! Description of Work This position is located at Roanoke River Correctional Institution with a duty assignment to the minimum custody facility.
Work in this class provides first-line supervision for Correctional Officer I's in a minimum custody facility. Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences Employee supervises officer activities and performance and ensures that the custody, security, and welfare of inmates is maintained. Employee conducts shift line -up, makes shift assignments to include duty area and post; and inspects all personnel to determine if they are physically and mentally capable of assuming an assigned post.
This position will complete, review, and maintain time reports, duty rosters, leave schedules, performance evaluations, and administrative forms. This position will account for persons and funds to ensure that all assigned equipment is operationally ready and implement operational procedures and ensure rules and regulations are followed according to policy. At this level, employees may supervise inmates in restrictive housing.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences Salary Range: $37,377 - $65,408 Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement. The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required. Facilities are categorized by custody levels (minimum, medium, close) and house individuals serving sentences for felony convictions. The division provides safety, security, and rehabilitative services through trained custody staff, program facilitators, and administrative personnel.
