British Transport Police have an excellent opportunity for a Designing Out Crime Officer (DOCO) to join the Network Policing Support Department.

As a Designing Out Crime Officer (DOCO) with BTP, you will provide specialist advice and guidance on Crime Prevention Through Environment Design (CPTED), protective security and public safety risk across the rail environment. You will influence design, investment and operational decisions to help reduce crime, improve public safety and support safer railway infrastructure and developments. What you'll be doing: Providing specialist crime prevention and security advice on railway developments, station refurbishments and large-scale infrastructure projects.

Assessing crime, safety and environmental risks and producing evidence-based recommendations, reports and risk assessments. Building effective partnerships with railway stakeholders, local authorities, government bodies, architects, engineers and developers to embed crime prevention principles into designs. Delivering presentations, professional guidance and expert challenge to promote best practice and improve safety outcomes across the rail industry.

What you'll bring to the team: Essential Criteria: Level 4 Professional Qualification in Designing Out Crime, with willingness to undertake Level 5 qualification within 12 months of appointment. Experience of planning and managing workloads, producing high quality outputs within agreed timescales and organisational expectations. Experience of working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders and producing reports, risk assessments and evidence-based recommendations.

Strong influencing, negotiation, stakeholder engagement and presentation skills, with the ability to analyse complex information and communicate clear recommendations. Sound knowledge of crime prevention methodologies, planning and community safety legislation, Designing Out Crime principles and relevant data protection requirements. Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team while managing competing priorities effectively.

Desirable Criteria: Working within a policing and or railway environment. Level 4 Professional Qualification in Designing Out Crime, with willingness to undertake Level 5 qualification within 12 months of appointment or demonstrating comparable experience. The postholder will be required to travel extensively during the course of their duty with a requirement of working occasional unsociable hours, and overnight stays.
