The individual is male in his 40's and resides near Hedon, within 5 miles. He requires a dedicated support worker as he has had speech and mobility loss, he is working with specialist teams and making good progress in learning to talk and walk again. He also has short term memory loss. Currently he uses a manual wheelchair and is unable to self-propel so will require a personal assistant who will be able to move him when in the chair.
There are plans for him to have an electric wheelchair, but this is not yet in place. About the role The successful candidate will be responsible for - Support with movement with the use of aid in the home. Support with holding his legs when undertaking transfers, getting dressed, having showers or attempting to mobilise for transfers. Assisting the individual with accessing activities and spending time out in the community.
Attending/transporting the individual to social activities and appointments. Hours 18.5 per week Monday to Friday- occasional weekends may be required. 09:15 to 13:00 (12:45 on one day) Flexibility is required due to appointments - notice will be given Additional hours may be available as there is a PM post, holiday/sickness cover may be required if possible, DBS/Reference checks will be required for this post - Cost to be met by the local authority.

Be patient, caring and understanding. Have experience in moving and handling. Be a car driver, with business insurance. Car must be able to accommodate the wheelchair. Have good communication skills (clear and effective communication). Be able to build a positive relationship with the individual to both encourage and support them. Be flexible to accommodate the hours of work where necessary.
