St John's Hospice is seeking an exceptional Director of Finance and Resources to join our Senior Management Team on a three-year fixed-term basis. This role matters. As our current Director of Finance and Resources is seconded to lead a major refurbishment and improvement project to make the Hospice fit for the next 40 years, we are looking for an inspiring leader to guide our finance and resources functions through this exciting period of change.

With two-thirds of our income funded through the generosity of our local community and annual operating costs approaching £8 million, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the long-term sustainability of our Hospice and the services upon which local people rely. Working closely with the Chief Executive, Board of Trustees and Senior Management Team, you will help shape strategy, lead financial planning and ensure the resources are in place to deliver a wide range of Hospice services.

Therefore informal conversations are welcome, please get in touch., The role has been established to provide leadership capacity and organisational resilience whilst the Director of Finance & Resources is seconded to the Hospice Refurbishment & Improvement Project over a three year period.

The postholder will assume day-to-day leadership responsibility for the Directorate, ensuring continuity of service delivery, strong financial stewardship, effective governance and regulatory compliance. You will be responsible for the effective financial management of the charity, including robust assessment of financial risks, and have lead responsibility for the entire accounting and financial reporting of the charity and subsidiaries.

Provide sound financial advice to the Board of Trustees and Senior Management Team and promote good stewardship of the charitys' funds and physical resources across the organisation. Work visibly and strategically as a key member of both the Senior Management Team and the Finance and Resources sub-committee of the Board of Trustees. You will lead on all performance analytics strategically and provide high level support to this function across the charity and subsidiaries, ensuring that robust, accurate data is available to inform strategic decision making.

You will be responsible for the provision of a safe hospice environment and the physical resources to support the strategic plans of the hospice including our digital transformation journey. St Johns Hospice was founded as a charity in 1986 and provides specialist in-patient and community-based palliative care and support to adults in North Lancashire, the South Lakes and parts of North Yorkshire.

St Johns Hospice is held in deep affection by the local community, its staff and volunteers, so this is no ordinary Director role. All our care is free of charge to the patients and their loved ones but, of course, it isn't free to provide, with two thirds of the annual income funded through the generosity of the local community. It costs almost £8 million a year to run St Johns Hospice, and you will play a strategic role in managing these resources, without which we cannot provide the huge range of services the community relies on.

St John's is governed by a Trustee Board that takes overall responsibility for its work and is managed by a Senior Management Tea
