Job Summary The Distribution Driver specializes in petroleum deliveries and supports Terminal Operations by safely, efficiently, and timely transporting dispatched fuel and lubricant products to and from assigned destinations.
This DOT safety-sensitive position requires flexibility, dependability, and a consistent commitment to applicable safety and hazardous-materials transportation requirements, product integrity, accurate inventory and delivery records, and professional customer service. Duties and Responsibilities Safely operate the assigned truck and specialized distribution trailer to transport and deliver fuel and lubricant products to and from designated locations.
Perform required pre-trip, en route, and post-trip inspections of the truck, distribution trailer, wet kit, hoses, equipment, and supplies. Promptly report defects, leaks, damage, or unsafe conditions and do not operate equipment that is not safe or legal to use. Maintain the truck, distribution trailer, wet kit, hoses, and related equipment in a clean, organized, secure, and serviceable condition.
Safely lift, carry, position, and handle long delivery hoses when dispensing product at customer locations. Inspect and monitor tank inventory to ensure accurate deliveries and maintain inventory balance across multiple deliveries completed under a single bill of lading. Maintain product integrity by following established line-flushing procedures. Maintain accurate driver logs and comply with applicable FMCSA hours-of-service, ELD, state, and federal DOT requirements.
Comply with applicable PHMSA hazardous-materials transportation requirements, including required placarding, shipping papers, product handling, and transportation procedures. Maintain clear and timely communication with dispatch and other team members regarding pickups, deliveries, schedule changes, equipment concerns, and service issues. Complete required trip logs, inspection reports, bills of lading, inventory records, delivery confirmations, and other assigned documentation accurately and on time.
Complete required initial and recurrent training, including Smith System defensive-driving training, and comply with company safety, coaching, telematics, and video-monitoring policies. Assigned vehicles may be equipped with inward- and outward-facing cameras. Use required personal protective equipment (PPE) and promptly report crashes, spills, releases, product errors, inventory discrepancies, equipment defects, security concerns, or unsafe conditions.
Take only emergency-response or cleanup actions for which properly trained, equipped, and authorized. Perform the normal duties assigned to qualified Tank Wagon and Transport Drivers, including fleet fueling, as directed. Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor, provide courteous customer service, and communicate safety or delivery concerns before proceeding. Education and Experience At least 21 years of age and a high school diploma or GED.
Valid Class A CDL with tank vehicle and hazardous materials endorsements, normally represented by an X endorsement, and no restriction preventing operation of the assigned equipment.
