JOB DESCRIPTION:Position Summary:Plans and performs professional engineering assignments associated with product support, research, development, or manufacturing.
Independently evaluates well-defined engineering problems or opportunities, identifies technically sound solutions, and applies engineering analysis tools to select and implement solutions. Tools include FMEA’s, boundary diagrams, GD&T stack-up analysis, solid modeling, statistical analysis, life analysis and FEA’s. Normally considered an early-career experienced engineer and a local technical resource for defined products, systems, or projects.
Products in this case are primarily mechanical or electromechanical foundation-brake products such as brake calipers, rotors and pads. Works in a team environment with limited supervision and direction.Essential Functions:Participation in the FMEA and DVP&R process.Uses safe engineering and laboratory practices.Applies standard engineering methods, tools, and techniques to analyze product performance and resolve technical issues.Independently investigates engineering problems, identifies root causes, and recommends sound technical solutions.Develops and executes engineering analyses, test plans (DVP), and validation activities for assigned components or subsystems.Supports development and maintenance of engineering requirements, specifications, and design documentation.Coordinates and provides technical direction to designers, technicians, suppliers, or engineering support personnel on specific assignments.Performs and supports design reviews, product launches, engineering changes, and field issue resolution activities.Works with cross-functional teams including Manufacturing, Quality, Test Engineering, Supplier Quality, and Purchasing.Identifies opportunities to improve product robustness, quality, cost, manufacturability, or validation efficiency.Communicates technical results through written reports, presentations, and design reviews.Manages assigned tasks to meet schedule commitments and provides timely status updates.Knowledge:Working knowledge of engineering principles, theories, and standard analysis techniques.Familiarity with common engineering tools and systems (e.g., Excel, PowerPoint, CAD tools, MiniTab).Understanding of product development processes, including design release, validation, and change management.Strong understanding of GD&T and metrology tools and techniques.Basic understanding of supplier and manufacturing processes.Knowledge of air brake systems or commercial vehicle systems is preferred.Awareness of applicable industry standards and regulatory requirements preferred (SAE, FMVSS, NHTSA as applicable).Strong understanding of GD&T and metrology tools and techniques is a p
