EUROPEAN INSURANCE MANAGER Location: London or Birmingham , with regular travel across the European portfolio Salary: £75,000 - £85,000 , dependent on experience Sector: Real Estate/Property Insurance Contract: Permanent, Full-Time ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY Our client is looking for a European Insurance Manager to manage the delivery of a cost-effective, high-quality insurance service across their European property portfolio covering both the administrative placement and maintenance of insurance cover, and the active risk management of the Group's continental European assets.
Reporting to the Director of Treasury & Risk, you will play a genuinely hands-on role in ensuring the Group's European insurance programme remains fit for purpose as the portfolio continues to grow in scale and complexity. This is a role that combines technical insurance expertise with real operational ownership across multiple European jurisdictions. WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING Manage the placement and timely removal of insurance cover across European property acquisitions and disposals, ensuring appropriate cover is always in place.
Maintain accurate and complete insurance records for all European assets, including construction data, sums insured and policy schedules. Analyse and verify sum insured information provided by third-party valuers, minimising the risk of insurer challenge or inadequate cover. Provide insurance documentation to support bank financing exercises, including compliance certificates and lender-specific insurance reports.
Act as the central liaison point for insurance claims across the European portfolio, managing the claims process with local loss adjusters, legal counsel and insurer representatives. Support the annual renewal of European property insurance, working with the Group's brokers to provide accurate exposure data and achieve competitive terms. Oversee the onboarding of new European territories to the Group insurance programme, ensuring a smooth and compliant transition.
Conduct risk surveys and tenant inspections across the European portfolio alongside risk advisors, identifying and documenting material risks. Advise local European management teams on risk mitigation measures and monitor agreed improvement plans through to completion. Engage proactively with insurers on risk management activity to support favourable premium outcomes at renewal. Act as primary point of contact for the Group's brokers and insurers on European programme matters.
Support local European teams who may have limited insurance experience with guidance and training materials where appropriate. Develop and maintain effective working relationships with European banking partners, providing insurance compliance evidence in line with facility terms. Contribute to efficiency improvements within the Insurance Department, drawing on experience from larger or more structured insurance environments.
Provide cover for other members of the Insurance Team as required, including during periods of absence or high workload. WHAT OUR CLIENT LOOKING FOR Demonstrable experience in property insurance management, ideally gained within or alongside a large, well-structured insurance organisation or broking environment. Experience managing insurance across multiple European jurisdictions, with a working knowledge of regulatory and market differences between key European territories.
Proven ability to manage insurance placements, renewals and claims across a complex, multi-asset property portfolio. Experience preparing and presenting insurance compliance documentation to banking and lending counterparties. A track record of conducting or coordinating property risk surveys and translating findings into actionable risk improvement programmes. Experience within a real estate investment or asset management environment, familiarity with the Lloyd's and London Market, and knowledge of the captive insurance model are all desirable but not essential.
