Locum – Physician – Cardiovascular Surgery 📍 Location: Colorado Springs, CO 🏥 Facility Type: Hospital-Based (Level I Trauma Center) 📅 Start Date: As soon as credentialed 🕒 Schedule: 24-hour call shifts – Friday to Sunday Additional weekday call coverage during vacation periods Call Hours: 6:00 AM – 6:00 AM Opportunity Overview: This is a high-acuity locum cardiovascular surgery call coverage opportunity at a Level 1 trauma center in Colorado Springs.

The hospital is seeking a board-certified Cardiovascular Surgeon to manage a full spectrum of complex cardiac procedures, including CABG, valve replacements, ECMO, TAVRs , and more. The role requires confident solo coverage with no other thoracic surgeons on-site during call shifts. Practice Details: Patients Per Day: 1–2 new admissions 8–10 ICU patients 1–2 surgical cases/day Hospital Beds: 400 total ICU Beds: 12 Team: 2 Surgeons, 5 Mid-levels Support Staff: ICU, EPIC EMR, advanced cardiac care team Supervision: Expected to provide clinical oversight to APPs and staff Required Procedures: Open Cardiothoracic Surgery CABG (On-pump & Off-pump) Valvular Repair & Replacement Congenital Defects (ASD, VSD, PFO) Aortic Aneurysm & Thoracic Repairs TAVR, MitraClip, Lead Extractions ECMO Cannulation (for stabilization/transport to academic center) Preferred Skills (Strong Plus): Acute volume/BP management Central & arterial line insertion PA catheter, IABP placement Travel & Logistics: Flights: Reimbursed Lodging: Reimbursed Car Rental: Economy car cap Mileage: Reimbursed Candidate Requirements (Must Be Noted at Submission): Board Certified in Cardiovascular Surgery – REQUIRED Active Colorado license or IMLC – REQUIRED BLS & ACLS (AHA only) – REQUIRED; if not AHA, note willingness to obtain Clean background / No malpractice history – REQUIRED This is a high-impact locum role for a seasoned CV surgeon ready to step into a critical coverage need in a respected trauma center.
