JOB PURPOSE The Facilities Technician, reporting to the Facilities Director, provides hands-on maintenance and operational support across the school, with a particular focus on the Junior School campus.

The role serves as a key point of contact for day-to-day facility needs, independently completing general repairs, installations, furniture assembly, room configurations, and seasonal outdoor work. Working as part of the Facilities team, the Technician helps ensure that the campus is safe, functional, and well-maintained for students, staff, and visitors. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Respond to and complete assigned work orders using the maintenance management system, ensuring timely updates and resolution Perform routine and preventative maintenance on building systems, equipment, and grounds Complete minor carpentry and installation work, including measuring, cutting, fastening, and assembling materials Assess and complete routine repairs to furniture, shelving, doors, hardware, fixtures, walls, flooring, and other building components Assess concerns and determine whether they can be resolved internally or require escalation to a licensed trade or external contractor Perform outdoor and seasonal maintenance, including shovelling snow, applying salt, clearing debris, and maintaining safe entrances, walkways, and exterior spaces Complete room, event, and rental set-ups and take-downs, including moving and arranging tables, chairs, equipment, and other materials Support school operations during peak times, including student arrival and dismissal as required Contribute to a safe working environment by following health and safety procedures and regulations Respond to facility-related emergencies such as floods, alarms, or power disruptions Use tools, equipment, and materials safely and appropriately Other job duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS Valid driver’s license considered an asset Previous experience in general maintenance, property maintenance, facilities operations, construction, hospitality maintenance, or a similar hands-on environment Experience using common hand and power tools safely Comfortable using digital tools (computer or iPad) to receive, update, and complete work orders Strong customer service mindset, with the ability to interact professionally and respectfully with students, staff, parents, and external partners Reliable and responsive, with the ability to follow through on tasks and support a fast-paced school environment Ability to assess maintenance issues and complete minor repairs, both independently and as part of a team Practical knowledge of general building maintenance and the ability to recognize when work requires a licensed trade or specialized contractor EMPLOYEE COMPETENCIES At The York School, we seek individuals who demonstrate the following core and role-specific competencies: Flexibility & Adaptability Breadth of Contribution Relationship Focused Service Orientation Communication & Collaboration Inclusivity Integrity & Trust Technical Expertise in Area of Discipline WORKING REQUIREMENTS Work takes place across the school campus, both indoors and outdoors Regular physical activity including lifting, c
